Title: E.on 0845 numbers
Post by willowapplecake on Jan 15th, 2010 at 3:25pm
Had a problem with E.on automated 0845 number in as much as it could not understand my spoken account number and the word Yes (I have never had anyone unable to understand my speech before) Emailed E.on and complained about being held so long on an 0845 number due to fault in system and also mentioned that I was not happy that they used an 0845 number.

Thought you might be interested in the reply

We changed our Customer Service freephone numbers to 0845 numbers some time ago as our research has shown that a freephone number is not a service valued by our customers. Many customers do not call us, so the majority are subsidising the high cost of providing this service. We would rather put this investment into other areas of our business that the majority of customers can benefit from. The practice of 0800 sales and 0845 servicing numbers is widespread across the energy sector

Well it gave me a good laugh!

Intriguing name willowapplecake!    As a connoisseur of apple cake, of both the deutch and the english bramley varieties, I must say I've never seen one of the willow type before.   Would you be able to share a recipe with us here, and maybe tell us something of its origins? ;) :)

Interesting news tonight re E.on.  They are closing a call centre in Essex with the loss of 600 jobs, they say they can provide customer services better with less staff/call centres - read this as customers will now be on hold to 0845 numbers for even longer E.on's meaning E.on's profits rise even faster, at the expense of customers and staff!  Candidates for Hall of Shame on all counts??

This number comes from their "Press" page and all the other press officer numbers are 02476.

Sadly they show the type of cynicism typical of their industry --- 0800 number if you wish to become a customer but once you are a customer they ask you to call 0845 unless you are deaf, blind or infirm. :( >:(

From the OP, it would seem E.on may have discontinued or be about to discontinue the 0800 number anyway.   As most of their other numbers are 0845, I think my point that, with 600 LESS staff answering the phones, customers will be on hold for even longer (see OP) costing those customers even more thus, with the saving of 1 call centre and 600 employees and on-costs, bossting E.on's profits even higher.   I note from loddon's post that they do quote a number for international callers, maybe the writer of the OP would like to ttry that and report back.   (We are not with E.on but with EDF who follow a similar format - 0800 for power cuts, at least 0845 for everything else, I resorted to emailing last year & that did work reasonably well, at least I managed to deal with the same person each time, unlike call centres!)

Thanks sherbert, I'll make a note of that but certianly when we needed our main fuse thing upgraded last year there was no way round the 0845 (long queues so gave up) or email.  I tried every option in the database, including a named indivual in some department or other who tried to put me thourgh but the queue was so long the system wouldn't let me join!   Although I do have to say, they're an improvement on 24/7...................sort of!

I am an Eon customer, and noticed the change from 0800 to 0845 numbers probably two years ago.

Being a prolific hoarder, I looked up one of my old bills from them, tried their old 0800 number and have been using it without a problem ever since.

It's 0800 195 5556 and it connects straight to the Eon call centre.

I did in fact use it this week as the grasping sods wanted to increase my monthly payments from £51 to £69 despite being in credit.  They were told what to do with their increase - without cost to me.

But if this 0800 facility is withdrawn, I will have to wait to ring them at the weekend!

Barbara,  Am also with EDF, One of the reasons I joined was the 0800 numbers, I can't spot any 0845 numbers on their site , they are all 0800.

Sorry did not check, before posting , you were talking about EON  :-[

E.ON has now disabled its widely publicised 0800 363363 number and various other 0800 numbers which all redirect to a 0845 number. I believe that this 0800 number was in use when it was Powergen.  >:(

E.ON, another rip-off company using covert-premium 0845 numbers.
