Title: Barclays Fraud Detection 08453512262
Post by pgibney on Jan 17th, 2010 at 2:23pm
Hi, Barclays Fraud Detection phoned me and an automated message asked me to call them back on 08453512262 - which currently has no geographical number assigned to it on here. Could someone find the geographical number please?

Many thanks,
Paul

P.s. No evidence of fraud was detected, i just had to pay the bank over the odds to listen to a computer generated voice and push a few buttons...

Thank you sherbert :),

Yes interesting and unnerving thanks! I'm now almost completely sure the call I received was genuine, but now think I was a bit naive to divulge the details I did to a machine. If I ever get another call like it I think I'll phone the main number given on the Barclays website (08457 555555 / 0247 684 2100) and ask to speak to someone from the fraud team - so won't personally need the geographical number I requested anymore thanks

Cheers,
Paul

I think naive is a bit of an understatement. :o

Are you telling us that if anyone telephoned you purporting to be a financial institution you are ready and willing to give them details of your finances without doing a proper check first? You wouldn't do that to someone in the street, so why do it to a stranger (or a machine) on the telephone? :-?

I think the best advice is never ever give your details over the phone unless you have instigated the call first.

Yes, that would make complete sense, especially as you have a number to telephone them to see if the first call was genuine. ;)

Anyway I would suggest you keep an eye on your bank acccounts in the mean time to check nothing untoward has gone on.

Good luck and if there is anything else you need do come back and visit us again. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
