Title: Menzies Distribution (John Menzies Plc)
Post by happy37 on Apr 9th, 2010 at 10:30am
Hello everyone

I wanted to check if the phone number that I am using to phone the Maidstone branch of the above company for wholesale magazines and newspapers deliveries is the correct one, or if there is another 01/02 alternative available, please?

The company's website is:-

www.i-menzies.com

Further contact details for the various branches are at:-

https://www.i-menzies.com/cgi/public/contact-regions-south.cgi

The branch that I am interested in is the Maidstone branch.

The address is:-

Unit C
Larkfield Trading Estate
New Hythe Lane
Aylesford
ME20 6SW
Phone: 0845 200 8216    >:(

(this is a call centre only, and doesn't get you through to the branch directly before 6am). After 6am, you are connected to the call centre only, and never to the branch.

Fax: 01622 714666

Now, unless someone else on here confirms otherwise, the phone number that I worked out from the fax number (and I do use this from time to time, but I get told - "where did you get this number from, you're not meant to have this number" blah, blah blah etc...) is:-

01622 714660

I do use 141 in front of it though.....    :) ;) ;D :P

Any comments or thoughts, please - especially for those people who are looking for an alternative, and where 0845/0870 numbers are not inclusive in their BT phone packages, or they are not with BT.

Thanks for your help.

Regards

As you're the one who's using it, then why can't you answer the question?

I think you've answered your own question!!  ::)

You say that the 0845 number goes through to the central call centre and that you are looking for an alternative for the 0845 number. So you are looking for a number for the central call centre. So why did you call the branch number? Perhaps the response you got on the 01622 714660 number is because no customers are to call it.

If the 0845 number goes through to the central call centre, then it's reasonable to assume that the 0845 numbers for other branches do the same. The database contains alternatives (beginning 020 7998) which are alternatives to respective 0845 numbers, as opposed to direct branch numbers. So from what you say, I would call one of them.

There is one other number that doesn't appear to be an alternative to a 0845 branch number and that is 020 7998 4731. See if that goes through to the central call centre.

Let us know how you get on.

Dave,

Many thanks for your help.

I should have explained better - it is the branch number that I need. As I stated, the 0845 number only goes through to the branch before 6am.

After this, it directs to the call centre.

Whilst I don't have a problem speaking to the call centre - it would be good to speak to someone directly at the branch in cases where things are urgent etc...

I would like to have the number 01622 714660 added as a verified listing for the Maidstone branch so that other people who might be looking for this number will be able to find it.

141 will have to be used in front of it, though.

Unless there is another direct branch number that is located, then this will have to do for now.

I will try and call the 020 7998 4731 number and will report back where it connects to.

Thanks again - your comments are welcome.

Regards

I have now located the direct alternative to calling Maidstone branch's 0845 number.

The vast majority of numbers 020 7998 4700 to 4747 have been found to be answered as "Menzies Distribution", most of which have IVRs (recorded menus) that match those on 0845 numbers for local branches.

Calling a 0845 branch number (or its 020 7998 47xx counterpart) gives two options:
1. A branch update - a recorded message giving updates for the current day, such as if there are any delays in delivery vehicles leaving.
2. Speak to an operator or speak to the branch - Thanks to happy37 for the explanation. From your posting I gather that this option changes; at some times it directs calls to individual branches and at other times it puts calls through to the central call centre.

The 0845 numbers for branches have been matched up to respective 020 numbers by calling the latter and selecting option 1. The daily messages on the option 1s usually start by identifying the branch.

I presume that the Maidstone branch is new (or has been introduced since we last looked at these numbers). The 0845 number is not in the same block as most of the other branches (it's about 600 numbers higher) which could be explained because it's newer.

A try of the 020 7998 47xx numbers which were previously not for Menzies branches reveals that 020 7998 4736 is the one for Maidstone and I have listed this in the database.

Dave

Good morning - just to say a huge thanks for taking the trouble to find out the number for me...it's much appreciated.

The 020 7998 4736 number does indeed work - I have just dialled it, pressed number 2 to "speak to an operator" - and got through without any questions asked.    :)    ;)    ;D

The other number -  020 7998 4731 is for the London branch...the operator didn't exactly say which one when I asked which branch this was.

When I asked for the Maidstone branch number, she gave me...guess what? - 01622 714660!    ::)

So, I guess that they both work?

Please kindly add both of these numbers as verified.

Many thanks for your help once again with all of this - it's much appreciated.

Regards

Sherbert,

You are a star, I called their head office and asked for the number I wanted, after a few questions, like who I was and why I wanted the number.

I gave them a cock and bull story about losing keys in their car park.....

They gave me a number 0141 643 3406 which works a treat to over ride 0845 200 7685.

Can't thank you enough as it will save me money on my call plan.

Regards

Abid

Hello Abid and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

Thanks for posting about this. I've removed all the defunct 020 7998 47xx numbers from the listings.

I was going to say "that's that" now the numbers have been changed. Thanks to the resourcefulness of sherbert for finding this lead which may work for finding other branch numbers. The head office address and phone numbers (given above) are on the company's website.

I have added this number (0141 643 3406) as verified for Cambuslang.

I looked up this branch on BT Phonebook and found one entry which gives 0141 641 3355. Unfortunately this number is now answered by a recorded message giving the 0845 number.

The only other number we have are for Sheffield 0114 256 5900-4 (verified) and Leeds 0113 272 1163 (unverified).

If anyone requires any other, then I suggest they try head office as Abid did. Where alternatives are found, please post here or e-mail me to dave {at} saynoto0870 {dot} com and I will add to the listings.

Thanks again to Abid for letting us know about the numbers which didn't work and for the feedback on the working number for Cambuslang. If you come across any other entries that require our attention, please post in the Requests section of the forum and I or one of my colleagues will make necessary changes.  :)

Hello and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

We discussed Menzies Distribution a few weeks ago and I've joined your posting to that tread.

See above posting from Abid who said he got head office to give him the number of his local depot.

If you do get an alternative number, then please post it here and I'll add it to the database for others to use.  :)

Hi,

John Menzies are at it again they have changed their number yet again.

From Monday 27th February they are callers to the Cambuslang Branch to call 0844 742 4009.

We did have a number for each Menzies Distribution; these being all in one 020 number block (of around 50 numbers) and these went through to the same announcement as respective 0845 numbers.

These have now been disabled and now we have only direct numbers for Sheffield and Cumbuslang, these being local geographic numbers.

The Cambuslang one, 0141 643 3406, goes through to a recording which announces it as such and this matches the published 0845 200 7685 number.

Abid, unless you know something I don't, then I would keep using that; hoping that it is simply the 08 number that is being changed, with the new 0844 number being directed to the existing 0141 number.

Do let us know how you get on with it after tomorrow. If it still works I can add the 0844 number to the entry in the database and if it doesn't, then I will remove it from the listings.  :)
