Hello Deb,
I have never heard of this happening before... the only thing I can suggest is.. as it's an 0800 number and free from a landline to call, is to ring it directly (not using the 1471, 3 service) and see if you get an automated message or it connects to someone.. maybe a clitch in the 1471 service, or something set up in the CLI sender from the company.. :-/ please let us know how you get on.. :) |

Two personal points to make. 1. The "1471, 3" service is for the wealthy and lazy. It always costs to use this service, even for calls to a 0800 number! 2. My strong advice is that calling back after a missed call (especially if the caller had the chance to leave an answerphone message) is only for the insatiably curious who have nothing better to do with their time. Obviously if you recognise the number of a friend, you may wish to return their failed call. If you have reason to believe that no stranger should be able to call you, then you may wish to investigate. I would see these as valid reasons to return a missed call. Apart from this, one should ask oneself if you really value telephone calls from people that you do not know so highly that you are desperate to speak with someone who obviously wanted to speak with you. Question whether you are prepared to take the risk of wasting your time by only getting through to an answering service. Yes it is tempting, but most of us probably have better things to do with our time. If you learn that you were called by someone from BT, or by someone from a call centre, then the wondering about just who and why may turn an meaningless incident into a source of worry and greater concern. There is no way for a caller to say who they are unless a call is answered. My concern is with those who fail to do so when it is. |

SCV... as you quoted one specific part of a genuine reponse of mine, I feel compelled to respond! I specifically said in brackets NOT using the 1471, 3 service, as I am aware of it's cost! I am sure there were other parts of the post you could of picked out... I am aware your a strong campaginer on this site, but I feel your trying to shoot me down in my efforts... I'd appreciate it if you didn't! |

This is typical of SCV and that is why I and others have given up responding to his posts. |

CJT-80, I am very sorry if you feel that I was aiming to shoot down your efforts. I offer what I describe as "personal points" aimed at those inclined to return missed calls. You provided a vital piece of guidance to someone so inclined, which I quote, endorse and extend. My second point was not strongly related to any point that you had made, but to the issue in general. This derives from my involvement in the issues surrounding the matter of Silent Calls, rather than those of primary concern in this forum. These issues were however recently discussed at length in this thread. I do wish that comments from all contributors were read and assessed for their intrinsic merits, rather than being taken to be either for or against any other contributor, as if part of some inter-personal competitive agenda. I also wish that we could spend more time discussing the issues themselves, rather than the personalities of members - we are not conducting a general election campaign! |

I've never heard of this and I would have thought that only numerals 0 to 9 could be presented as a CLI (Calling Line Identity: the number presented on a caller display unit or via 1471 etc). Could the 'i's have been misheard and were in fact 9s? :-/ I concur with other comments that, unless there have been a number of nuisance calls like this, there is little to be gained by finding out who called, although I note that in your posting you don't express your desire to do this. |

SCV point taken, noted and accepted...
I totally agree on the subject of Silent or indeed annoying calls... such as those automated ones telling you that: A: You've won a holiday to some far away island (That was my biggest annoyance) B: Govenment legislation allows me to wipe up to X % of my debt... (frankly IF I was in debt I'd be calling them) C: They have some survey they want me to be involved in... my other biggest call related annoyance is over-seas call centres who call you for some one else.. and then try and sell you something! Sorry... gripe/rant over |

Your parents may have misheard the 'i', it could have been '5' If so then it is Thomas Sandersons, the blinds company. See here http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/08005610056 |
