Asda mastercard charge a flat rate of £1.50 for calls to 0904 2561144, the customer service number. Cheek! Anyone know a way around this?

Perhaps if you'd start off with some basic information instead of leaving it to us... ::)

Helen,
usually it's more helpful to provide more info such as where you go the number, any postal addresses etc.. then we can look further into it for you.. however I had a few spare mins and did some searching for you... Asda Mastercard is most likely provided by ASDA Financial Services - Here They have a Contact Us link at the bottom of the page - Here That gives a list of departments which includes Credit Cards - Here Which gives the postal address and a contact number of: 0871 522 5888, which when typed in the SNT0870 Database gives: 020 8181 0000 Perhaps you can try that and get back to us? Thanks. :) |

Thanks very much - I think this works (you have to go through several different, annoying push button menus first) but my phone was cut off after waiting 30 minutes listening to music and how they were going to answer my call shortly. I'd have been well hacked off to pay £1.50 for that. Sorry I messed up when I posted the information. I'll confirm if I ever get through...

I have added the number 0904 2561144 to the existing entry for Asda's credit card which gives this 020 number as the alternative. This means you can now search by this 090 number and it will come up. This is one of a number of cards provided by Santander Cards (formally GE Money/GE Capital) and the alternative seems to work for all of them. |

I suggest you could also try calling the Asda Freephone number (from a landline) on 0500 100055 listed on this website and then trying some of the many options on there for reaching different product types within the company. I can use that number to call Asda Mobile's customer service free of charge even though if I called on my handset Asda Mobile's call centre (operated by Vodafone) would charge me a flat rate 25p for the privilege.
However £1.50 flat rate per call is a totally outrageous rate to charge for calling customer services and if I were you I would be making my displeasure known to the personal finance journalists of several national newspapers and cc to the CEO of Asda UK and of Wallmart (its parent company) in the USA. |

Indeed. I know that this number works for Asda services not connected with the supermarket operation. Options include Asda Mobile and Asda Insurance. Asda Credit Card is accessible by selecting options 2, 1, 4, 2, 1. ;) I've amended the database entry with this tip, including a note on the relevant options to select. |

On a final point I note that the Original Poster seems to have inadvertently used part of her real world email address (which also seems to contain her real name) as her forum ID.
I expect she is used to doing this as a way of gaining account access as her user name to other services like Tesco home shopping etc but it is never advisable to use either your real world name or especially your email address as your forum name on the internet because it is then available to be viewed by the world at large and there are some people out there on the internet who have sadly been known to misuse such information in a number of different ways. I am sure it would therefore be a good idea if the forum management could help the OP protect her security and anonymity by reducing her forum name down to perhaps just Helen or any other user name that she might choose instead. |

P.S. I see an alternative direct phone line number for Asda Credit cards of 020 8181 0000 has been suggested as working at:-
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=1741219 I would also dial 141 before dialling 020 8181 0000 as that makes it harder for them to know that you are calling from within the UK. |
