Title: East Midlands Central Station (EMCS) Post by eggtronics on Aug 25th, 2010 at 3:49pm
Hello all, really appreciative of all that you do here.
I have been using a geographical number for EMCS for a while that a fellow engineer had found using this site. But, they have recently changed all their numbers from the one listed on this site and it no longer works. I am an alarm engineer, and EMCS are the monitoring station that our alarms send our signals to. I have to call them many times a day to put alarms on test for maintenance and then again to take them off test. Usually my mobile bill has a good £30-£40 ON TOP of my contract charges every month (so approx £60-£70 pcm) due to 0844 numbers not being included. Details are: East Midlands Central Station (EMCS) website: www.emcs.co.uk offending number: 0844 8099980 for the control room address: Waterside House Tissington Close off Brailsford Way Chilwell Nottingham NG9 6QG Any chance anybody has any ideas to find out a geographical number for this new number please? All efforts are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Joshua |

Hello and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.
My initial checks have yielded the following: Firstly, we discussed this company in 2007: http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1172751119 Secondly, there are three entries, all unverified, in our database for this company: EMCS (East Midlands Central Station) 0870 903 0999 0115 900 6999 Control room number. EMCS (East Midlands Central Station) 0870 903 1999 0115 983 7136 Administration number. EMCS (East Midlands Central Station) 0870 903 0999 0115 983 7000 So which geographical number have you been using? And are the others working, and if so, what department are they for? Do you know of any numbers they are now using? Fax, switchboard, accounts, any? As I say, these entries were languishing unverified. I really wish people would provide feedback and allow us to verify entries! It could be considered payment for the free service we operate. As you are now a registered member on the forum, please provide feedback on numbers you find don't work or are unverified but work. |

Hi, and thanks for your reply.
I used to use 0115 900 6999 and 0115 983 7000, but I have just tried all of them and none work. I think its because recently they did a big changeover to 0844 numbers, so all of the existing 0870 numbers just speak a message saying "phone the 0844 number"... Looking at the website, there is a freephone number of 0800 716 179, but even they are charged from mobiles, and apparntly it goes to sales anyway. That freephone number and the initial 0844 8099980 number I posted about are the only two new numbers they have given. Many thanks again, and I hope this helps. Joshua |

Firstly, mobile companies usually charge "freephone" 0800/0808/0500 numbers above 01/02/03 numbers and outside any inclusive minutes offered on the selected tariff. However, there are a number of services that can get round this. Try 020 0222 0900 or 0800Buster. They give you a geographic number to dial, which when answered requests the destination freephone number.
As far as finding an alternative to get round the 0844 809 9980 number, BT Phonebook lists one entry for this company: (0115) 973 6124. Of the other numbers we have: 0870 903 0999 Used to be for the Control room; now not recognised 0870 903 1999 Used to be for Administration department; now not recognised 0115 900 6999 Used to be for the Control room; recording redirects to 0870 90 30 999 0115 983 7000 Welcomes the caller to EMCS, issues an apology for the fact that the number has changed and then gives out the premium 0844 809 9980 number! 0115 983 7136 recording redirects to 0870 90 30 999 These responses may be potential clues to finding a new alternative. In your original post you simply said "they have recently changed all their numbers from the one listed on this site and it no longer works." "No longer works" or "doesn't work" can mean a whole myriad of things from not recognised to ringing, but no one answers. As an repair engineer, I expect you get people telling you that their alarm "doesn't work". For example, is it completely dead, no lights etc or does it function normally until the customer comes to enter the code to set the alarm? In order to find a solution you will need to know in what way it doesn't work. Based on the above, my hunch is that they have simply moved the numbers that they answer (that sit under the 08 numbers) to others within the block of numbers they have. 938 7200 is another company, so I suspect that they may have 7000 to 7199. I suggest that you e-mail them and point out the sheer cost of premium charges you incur during your work as a result of their choice of phone number. The website shows staff members and based those provided, e-mail addresses are firstname.lastname@emcs.co.uk The EMCS Contact List gives 0844 80 999 90 for most staff and fax 0844 80 999 70. CCTV Operators/Admin provide 0844 80 999 12. The "Abort Line" is 0800 716 460. This is a rip-off that doesn't publish any alternative company on its website. Perhaps you can contact them and suggest that they use 03 numbers (or 0115 numbers). |

Hi Dave,
Yes I have got the email, thanks for your hard work. I have tried the number 983 7074, which gives the options of 1. Administration 2. Accounts 3. Control room 4. Sales 5. CCTV, but when one is selected it just rings out unanswered. I shall try all others until I find something and definitely let you know! Thanks, Josh |

If all else fails, then it is probably worth looking to see whether their is another mobile tariff that is cheaper for 0844 calls. Maybe a pay as you go kept specially for ringing rip-off services like this.

Looking for alternative number to 08443352141 having received a 'activated alarm for which you are a keyholder' message from 'AMCS' I am trying to contact this company to find out exactly what I am supposed to be a keyholder for and to get my name removed from their database so I don't get anymore phone calls at 2am and 4am

It belongs to a company called EMCS who monitor alarm systems. You can contact their sales department through http://www.emcs.co.uk/contact-emcs/ - probably best to ring them and ask to be removed from the database.
