Title: Orange LLU Service Post by mainbass on Oct 13th, 2010 at 1:10pm
I have just contacted Orange to claim a discount from my Home Ultra Broadband phone Package as I`ve also now signed up to a pay monthly mobile account.
Not only have I got my discount but have also been told that 0845 & 0870 are now included in my landline package. In addition, the extremely helpful lady I spoke to tells me that when BT upgrades or in some way changes their equipment in my local exchange, Orange will no longer need to pay BT to use that equipment & a saving of £10 per month will be passed on to me. Apparently this is not done automatically & I will need to check from time to time to see if I am eligible for this further discount. I`m not too sure how it all works, maybe someone more knowledgable in the financial and technical workings of the BT/other provider relationships may be able to shed more light? Meanwhile, other Orange customers might wish to check if they are paying too much. ~ Edited by Dave: Thread title amended |

Perhaps the potential saving would be if you move to an Orange LLU (local-loop unbundled) service when it becomes available at your exchange.
SamKnows is well known for giving information on services available at exchanges. A non-LLU line is one which connects to BT Wholesale's equipment at the exchange end, and hence onwards to its network. A LLU line connects to another provider's equipment, where it has been installed in the respective exchange. Where a provider doesn't have its own equipment in a particular exchange, it cannot provide an LLU service. It will therefore pay BT Wholesale to provide the service to its customer. An LLU service therefore connects to a third party's equipment (and hence onwards to its own network) at the exchange end of the line. |

Ah yes, that sounds pretty much like what the nice Orange lady was trying to say - but you have explained it much better ;D. Thanks Dave.
Does anyone know if there is a way of finding out when/if an Orange LLU is installed? Oh by the way, should this thread be moved to Call Providers? |
