It seems  odd that Tesco Payg charge 8p a minute to call non geo 0844 numbers yet charge from 20p a minute to call the newer numbering range 0843.

The table actually says:

I suspect that the 0843 is erroneous as "084" appears in the line above, and that would make sense, meaning that 0843 is 8p/min, just like 0844 is.

On the subject of Tesco Pay as you Go in general, it looks good value.

Pay as you go with free credit tariff offers one triple credit per month. So for users who only top-up once (or less than once) a month, their call charges are effectively a third of the published rates.

• Geographic, 03 and UK mobile calls are 25 pence per minute and with triple credit that makes them effectively 8.33 pence per minute. Texts are 10 pence per message, which effectively makes them 3.33 pence per message with triple text.
  
• 05 / 0844 / 0845 / 0870 / 080 / 084 numbers are 20 pence per minute which makes them 6.67 pence per minute, which is cheaper than some landline providers.

There is also the Pay as you go lite tariff which offers geographic, 03 and mobile calls at 8 pence per minute and texts at 4 pence per message.

05 / 0844 / 0845 / 0870 / 080 / 084 numbers are 8p/min.

bigjohn, have you ever got to the bottom of this? Somehow I think that it's pointless to ring Tesco Mobile as so often the people you speak to aren't briefed correctly and/or guess incorrectly.

If Tesco Mobile charges 8p per minute for 0843, 0844, and 0845 numbers, this would surely make it the cheapest of all the mobile services. Or is there another one that is cheaper or does the 8ppm only apply to 0845 with 0843 and 0844 being 20ppm?
