Title: On the Beach, online holiday booking outfit...
Post by lincsloon on May 18th, 2011 at 3:37pm
Hi everyone,

New here, so hello to one & all.
Does anyone have an alternative number to 09059900000, this is OTB's customer sales line which charges 50p a minute? The thing is i had to call this number because they took too much money out of my account for a holiday booking & i had to chase them up, i managed to change their 0871 booking line to an 0800, but the booking agents couldn't help me with the mistake & insisted i had to call the customer sales line. 'Scuse my language, but i'm bloody fuming because it's cost me about £10-£12 & i'm insisting on reimbursement, due to the erroe not being my fault.
Any help much appreciated.

Steve

Hi there!

The only thing that I can see is to use " Ask Alison "

http://www.onthebeach.co.uk/contact_us

I take it that I am correct with the website???  Sorry that I cannot be of any more help.

Thanks James, i did see the virtual 'Alison' email portal, which we've done, but they seem to be elusive as to getting back to us. Hence the request to speak to someone & let them know how i feel.
Just wondered if there was an alternative to that 0905 number, which is a rip off & scam as far as i'm concerned.

Regards
Steve

I will have a look at this one, but a cursory glance shows quite a number of entries for this company in our database and I suggest that that might be the best place to start.

Go to the homepage and click:

Search to find an alternative number

Or go to http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php

Enter the company name on the beach

I note that there are quite a number of unverified entries, some with 0870 numbers and I believe that these are no longer published, and have probably been replaced with 0871 numbers so there is probably some work to be done updating them.

Likewise, there is a verified entry with a 0901 number in. Maybe this has been replaced with the 0905 number, thus maybe the alternative given in that entry will work for it as well. As ever, it's a case of suck it and see.

Please let me know what you find and help me update the listings.

One other thing, there are 0161 (Manchester) and 01625 (Macclesfield) numbers. Perhaps (this is just an idea) they deal with one type of call at one location and the other at the other. Which might explain why you couldn't get the answers you were looking for on the 0800 number. As I say, it's just a thought.

Dave, thanks very much for the info. i've just had a very brief look & what you say makes perfect sense, i will look into it in detail tomorrow, but just got in from work & i'm shattered, the 0901 number could well have been replaced by the 0905.

Hello again Dave and all,

I rang the alternative numbers to the 0901 number quoted within the link above :-
01625 503106
Admin Operations 01625 505979
Customer Services 01625 503111
All these lines dead, incidentally the fax number was still live, hhhhmm.
Seems like they're pulling a nice little earner with this 0905 rip off line.

Anyway Dave thanks for taking the time out to investigate for me, i don't know if anything can be done, except a complaint to whoever their regulator is.

Regards
Steve

These are all not recognised. Perhaps the reason is because they've moved from Macclesfield to Didsbury, about 10 miles.

Indeed! See this report from November 2007:
http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/business/s/1026122_on_the_beach_valued_at_40m

Quote:
On the Beach employs around 70 staff across premises in Didsbury and Macclesfield. Early next year, the business will unite its operations at a new site in Didsbury. Employee numbers are forecast to rise to 100 during 2008.

We have two unverified geographic numbers: 0161 448 4600 and 4670.

BT Phonebook has three entries for On the Beach in M20:

Quote:
1. On The Beach Ltd
Tel: (0161) 448 4600
Spectrum Ho Towers Bsns Pk Wilmslow Rd, Manchester, M20 2SE

2. On the Beach Ltd
Tel: (0161) 448 4600
Spectrum House Towers Business Park Wilmslow Road, Manchester, M20 2SE

3. On the Beach Holidays
Tel: 0871 472 4813
Spectrum House Towers Business Park Wilmslow Road, Manchester, M20 2SE

I suggest that numbers in this office might be of the form 0161 448 46xx (and maybe higher 47xx etc) and that the 0905 number may point to one or more of them.  :-?

Dear L,

Yes, try 0161 448 4611 - puts you in a queue

Also, 0161 448 4610 appears to be a fax number- you could try sending them one. At least they'd have to pick the piece of paper up and might just respond!

Thanks trickyd. To give up now would be to throw in the towel when oh so nearly there!

After a little bit of digging, the alternatives have come to light. My above hunch proved to be correct.

These are direct alternatives (they answer in the same way):
  • General enquiries: 0871 911 0201 | 0870 606 0708 | 0845 602 0362 | 0161 448 4600
  • Sales: 0871 911 0202 | 0800 085 8859
  • Customer Services/Aftersales: 0905 990 0000 | 0161 448 4621
  • Operations: 0871 472 4812 | 0161 448 4615
  • Fax: 0871 472 4810 | 0161 448 4610

I have updated the listings accordingly. :)

Hi Dave/Trickyd,

Thanks for all the investigations you have carried out, much appreciated, the small problem we had with OTB has been sorted, although their professionalism is called into question. I'm keeping this thread open because when my next phone bill appears i suspect a hefty chunk is going to come from the 50p per minute Aftersales line, i want reimbursement & the line you have uncovered above for me provides a useful tool in my endeavours.

Regards
Steve

So you will have to ring them (on the 0905 number) to get reimbursement for the previous 0905 calls. In which case you will need reimbursement for those 0905 calls as well.
