Title: East Coast
Post by Wynroyd on Oct 26th, 2011 at 8:15am
The number I have for them is 08457 225 225 and I need to contact them regarding Group Travel, although you use the same number for any other reason to contact East Coast.

I've tried searching on this website, which I always do, but unfortunately there is just 1 unverified listing which is no use at all because it doesn't show any alternatives  ::)!  It would be good if this could be removed or updated if any alternative is found.

Thanks in advance - and for everything you do on this site.

I have found their fax number, you could try dialling around that number to see if you get any luck.....

25  Skeldergate
York
North Yorkshire
YO1 6DH

    Telephone:  0845 722 5225
    Fax: 0191 227 5986

Thanks sherbert, I'm not very experienced at this but I haven't had any luck with that.  I even tried just ringing the fax number - but it just says 'The number you have dialled has not been recognised.' :(

If anyone else finds anything, please let me know.

Thanks very much.

On this site, under 08457 225 333 - apparently another number for East Coast, there is another unverified number that doesn't work:  0191 259 8024.  That could probably do with being removed too.

Thanks.

Good Afternoon,

I wanted to point out 2 things:

1: National Express East Coast no longer exist. They are simply called East Coast and have been since National Express gave up running them.

2: As per an FoI request the following letter is available on What Do They Know which lists Geographic alternatives to a large range of East Coast numbers.

It maybe worth looking on there to see what does and does not work, and then reporting back to this thread. The numbers can then be added.

:)

The rail franchise is known simply as "East Coast" and has been so for the last two years because National Express East Coast had bitten off more than it could chew. That was only three years after it had been surrendered by GNER!

I have removed the junk entry which didn't have an alternative. These are submitted by people who evidently think that this website works by magic. They are also unable to read the message which says that "This page is NOT for requesting numbers." ::)

East Coast closed down its long-running call centre in Newcastle-upon-Tyne earlier this year. This probably explains why the 0191 numbers we had previously are now defunct, and why the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Freepost postal address has been replaced with a Plymouth one.

Quote:
A total of 196 jobs are to be axed at a call centre based in Newcastle for the government-owned train company East Coast.

The call centre is currently run by travel operator National Express.

East Coast said the work was put out to tender in June last year. Successful bidders were Intelenet UK and Atos Origin.

Intelenet UK has centres in Plymouth and Fort William. Atos Origin is based in London.

East Coast said nine out of the 196 staff affected were East Coast-employed, and they were working with them to see if there were suitable redeployment opportunities within the company.

An Evening Chronicle news report from earlier this year says "Instead the work would go to two rival firms with bases in Wolverhampton, Plymouth and Mumbai in India."

The Plymouth office of Intelenet was previously FirstInfo (part of First Group) but was bought by Intelenet in the first quarter of last year. FirstInfo has come to our attention before as it operates the customer services and reservations* for other rail operators. Unsurprisingly, First Group's franchises are among these.

* I haven't checked now to see if they are still run by Intelenet. I know that we have a number of Plymouth numbers (01752 675) for these, so this might be a useful lead.

The other lead is Atos Origin whose Wolverhampton office is based at:

Atos
1 Trinity Court
Broadlands
Wolverhampton
WV10 6UH

There was an entry submitted to our database which says it was added two days ago. It is a Wolverhampton number (01902 627971) and is answered with the same East Coast Web Support IVR (menu) as is on the published 0845 722 5111 number. It has an option for other enquiries, so I think that if we don't find anything better, it will work for reservations and customer services.

I tried nearby numbers and found:

969 ATOS DVLA Payments Service Desk
972 National Rail Games Travel Centre
973 National Rail Games Contact Centre for Assisted Travel

It might be worth doing more digging...

Perhaps someone can find the 08 numbers for these "Games" numbers. I assume they're 08 numbers! Is this the Olympic Games by any chance?

Dave a search on Google found this it could be connected to the 01 Wolves number.

Thanks. I'll look at getting it listed. I see that they lie about the call cost "Calls to this number from landlines are charged at the local rate" with respect to the 0844 number.  ::)

@ Dave,

Indeed they do... I hovered over the E-Mail link and it's an AtosOrigin e-mail address.

Maybe worth members e-maling them...

I've added the two numbers for National Rail Games Travel which are given as overseas alternatives.

I also came across RedSpottedHanky.com whose published freephone number is 0800 3777748. There is also 0906 780 0054 which was in the unverified entry and answers the same as the 0800 and its alternative 01902 627981.

So we now have a direct alternative to Web Support 08457 225 111 which is 01902 627971.

Wynroyd and others, you might like to see if you can book tickets using it, instead of the published number 08457 225 225.
