Title: Messaging Ltd - Conferance call service
Post by JD-57 on Feb 13th, 2012 at 5:33pm
Hi can anyone help with finding the normal tel number for this conferance call service by Messenging Ltd, they advertise the number as 0844 580 5533, on their website they advertise no extra charges to the normal phone call charge but I'm a sceptic and my phone service provider Virgin says the 0844 number is not included in the inclusive call package.
Any help will be apreciated.

Hello and welcome to SayNoTo0870.com.

I gather that the company is "Messaging Ltd" rather than "Messenging Ltd".

I came across a website for it here: http://www.mlmmessaging.com/services/conferenceCalling.html

I can see that this page gives premium telephone numbers for Ireland, Spain and Germany. The numbers for other countries may be; I am not familiar with their numbering. The US number is a geographic one though.

It would have been helpful had you provided the link as suggested in the detailed instructions which I have put together.

The contact us page gives:

Messaging Ltd
Cervantes House
5-9 Headstone Road
Harrow
Middlesex
HA1 1PD

UK: 0800 083 1880 (Monday-Friday:10am to 5pm)
ROI: Dublin 617 7120
NL: 08000 234 570
Int'l: +44 (0) 800 083 1880
Fax: +44 (0) 845 873 6050

The 0844 number acts to collect a charge for the service.

Hi Dave

Thank you for your quick reply, and sorry for the misspelling of Messaging Ltd, and whoops I should have included the link :-)
As regards the cost there site shows this under charges 'Charges - it only costs you the price of a phone call. No fee or charge is made to setup a call or for the use of the Messaging Ltd instant voice conferencing service. That's right, no fees or charges - ever! Everyone dialling in to a conference call pays for their own phone call, typically 5p/min from BT landlines (costs for calls from mobiles may vary), from anywhere in the UK' so this is what I found, I've even spoke with Virgin who are our Phone service provider but have conflicting reply's when my partner also asked them about charges. One reply said there would be a transmit charge/min and a receive charge/min but the other said an 0844 number is included within the inclusive package we have, so totally confused.com now.
So don't know where we stand with messaging.com so far.....

The 0844 number is legitimately used by Messaging Ltd to provide a conference service at no extra charge other then the cost the call. They make the money from the use of the revenue sharing number to provide the service.

When they say no fee is charged they mean they dont charge anymore other then the call charges for you to use the service.

The charge band for the 084458 number on Virgin Media is  PG6

Virgin Media normally charges to call it (Connection Charge 13.24 and 12.41 a minute at at all times).

If you look around the net your find similar services offering lower band price 0844 calls and even a few offering 01/02/03 access at no extra cost to you. Handy if you have inclusive calls to 01/02/03 numbers.

The absolute charge for any call is set by the caller's own provider.

All calls to 0844 Business Rate numbers contain a Service Charge element, which is a subsidy for the benefit of the user of the number. In this case, that Service Charge is around 5 pence per minute.

The cost of calling this number from BT landlines is 13.1 pence Call Set-up plus 5.105 pence per minute. Calls are metered to the next whole second and the total call charge is rounded up to the next whole penny. These prices include VAT at 20%.

Virgin Media publishes its call rates at ]www.virginmedia.com/callcosts (bookmark that link). Refer to the document "PDF - UK non-geographic calls" which shows that 0844 58 is Charge Band PG6. Then refer to "PDF - Residential tariffs" and you will see that the cost of calling PG6 numbers is 13.24 pence Call Connection plus 12.41 pence per minute. Calls are metered plus or minus 1.1 second, rounded up to the next whole minute. The cost of each call is then rounded up to the next whole penny. Prices include VAT at 20%.

Due to regulation on BT Retail, when it charges for these calls it is prohibited from adding its own charge to the Service Charge. There are those, perhaps with something to gain, who would wish to protray this as being "the norm". Perhaps they have yet to wake up to the fact that BT is no longer the only call provider in the UK market.

As for an alternative number, I think we've been along this road before on a number of occasions for sister services by the same operator... and each time numbers have been disabled.

I called the 0844 580 5533 number and recognised the female voice over.... Powwownow.

The thread for Powwownow is here. A number on that thread which was used by that provider is 0844 580 0555 which is very similar to that used by Messaging Ltd, aka MLM Messaging.

As I say, we've found alternatives for Powwownow and they've been changed, repeatedly. So there's little point in going further with this one.

bigjohn makes a very valid point. The 0844 number pays for the service.

The OP might also want to look at http://www.03talk.com/ as an alternative. I've never used them, but this seems to do everything that "Messaging Services" offers, but on an 03 number rather than 0844.

Or the service mentioned here : http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1297487614 which uses a geographical access number.
