Can anyone track down a landline equivalent for the above number?

Dave

Thanks Golf_Paul, I've added this one.

As you say it is on the website.

Don't know how I missed that - many thanks. Also don't know why I didn't get an email notification of the previous two posts, even though I had selected "Notify of replies" - hence the reason I didn't notice that anyone had replied until today.

Anyway, thanks again.

Notification of replies by e-mails is somewhat clumbersome. As well as selecting the option to receive notifications, the option to be notified of notifications has to be selected in your User CP.

To do this, click at the top of the page. Then click Profile under the "View" heading and then Options. Enter your password. Near the bottom is says "Notify me of new Notifications by eMail?" for which the drop-down list needs to be set to "Yes".

Also, while you're there, go to PM Preferences and set "Notify me of new PMs by eMail" to "Yes" as well so that you will get e-mail notifications of any private messages.

I tried your procedure but when I entered what I thought was my password it said it was incorrect and bizarrely, there was no "forgotten your password?" link. (Normally my browser stores my passwords so I don't have to remember any of them but this password field didn't pick up the stored password). So I appear to be stuck!

Good Morning Dave Rado,

Are you currently "logged in" to the Forum?

If so Log Out, (it's next to the User CP icon) and then select "Forgot Password" from the login screen or area at the bottom of this Forum, you should then be able to get a new password..

:)

Thanks, I've done it now. As you said the procedure is very cumbersome! Is there any chance of having that remedied, or if not, of at least setting the "Notify me of new PMs by eMail" to "Yes" by default, rather than "No" as at present?

I think that's down to the software used by SNT0870, perhaps Dave (the other one) or the owner would be in a better position to answer.

I've pointed this out to site admin before now. I'm concerned that this is may be a reason why quite a few people who make postings, for which replies are given, apparently never come back.

I will draw the administrator's attention to this thread.

One of the reasons is that it is the way the Yabb Forum is designed. The reason given is because sending e-mails without opting in is considered spamming.

By selecting the " Check this if you wish to be notified of replies to this topic" checkbox, one is opting in. The issue is that you also have to set a preference in your profile (which no one would know unless they had been told) - and that is unnecessarily cumbersome. Having to opt in twice is not required in order to prevent unwanted emails.

I agree; it is disjointed: There is one place where you select which topics you want to be notified and another where you select how you would like to be notified of the notifications.

The other way would be that the first time someone ever ticks a box to say that they wish to be notified of replies for a topic, that they are then asked whether they would like to receive notifications by e-mail. The message could also advise that the setting of whether e-mails are sent is in the User CP.

That's one solution. Another would be to simply make the User CP setting "yes" by default, and the topic setting "no" by default. That way, you would be consciously opting in when you change the latter to "yes", so no accusations of spam could follow.
