There is one verified entry in our database which gives the "overseas" number as the alternative which is 0161 210 3086.
I called this from my BT landline with the caller ID withheld (by prefixing it with 141) and it went through to the recorded announcement telling me off and informing me that I should ring the 0845 number. I also called from my Orange mobile without withholding my number and it went through. I have added a note to the entry to this effect. |

Hi dave
I can't afford to ring that number you got for child benefit on my mobile, I just need a local number for it but if there isn't one, then nothing i can do,i saw there was a thread for CSA and i tried the numbers on there but it still said to dial child support agency on that 08456027428. So i am no further forward. If anyone knows a local number for either child benefit or child support agency in edinburgh please let me know. Thank you |

I think you may have misunderstood Dave's reply... If you dial the 0161 number given from a Landline the system they use recognises that you are calling from the UK. However Dave tried the 0161 number from his Orange mobile, and it worked. Therefore he has put a note saying: "Child Benefit helpline Calls blocked when calling from a UK landline, even where the caller's ID is withheld (using 141). The 0161 number may be able to be used from a mobile." I would therefore assume he is suggesting to try the 0161 number given from Your mobile and let us know if it works. I hope this clarifies it better. :) |
