The alternative numbers given for HMRC cannot be used from a UK landline.  You are requested to dial the 0845 number.  I was sorting a query for my mother who lives abroad and the only way I could use the listed number was via Skype.

Please can you identify which alternatives you are referring to by quoting them here (there are quite a few for HMRC)?

Not doing so means that the only way that they can be identified is by someone else going along the same road that you have done. The site is run by volunteers and therefore assistance in this way is appreciated and benefits those who use it. If everyone contributes a little, then collectively we can achieve a lot.

If HMRC has changed its stance and tightened up on "naughty" UK residents using the "overseas" 01/02 numbers, then please can users feed this back into the forum, as well as if any numbers are tried and found to work. As far as I can remember, it is over six months since anyone has said anything about HMRC's alternatives.
