Following an alarm activation caused by a young relative at a house I was staying at around 7am today I am writing with the following information on the listings for ADT Fire & Security having also updated the out of date telephone number information on my relative's alarm control panel.

1. The 0870 number listed on my relative's control panel no longer works and I presume none of the many 0870 numbers in these listing any longer work having all been replaced by 0844 numbers in the name of better revenue extraction despite the clear cut customer detriment involved during any serious emergency of a changed emergency contact number (an excuse cynically and successfully used by Flextel with OfCoN to hang on to their many ripoff 070 numbers for personal attack and emergency alarms) and the fact that 0870 numbers could still work if ADT had allowed them to and given up its naked greed in chasing revenue share.

2. The primary longstanding only 6 digits and not 7 digits so clearly goes back some years) 0800 number in line 1 of the listings for "ADT (Fire & Security)" still works.  This number then has an IVR menu allowing access to all other head office departments.  I would therefore submit that all of the Unverified and probably most of the Verified geographic alternatives listed also need reviewing as it is reported that most of them do not work.

In general ADT having taken over numerous small local burglar alarm companies in the UK in the last 10 years have now closed down their local offices and call centres and centralised everything in one or two big national call centres with predictably completely unhelpful lobotomised call centre staff (the call centre seems to be somewhere between Glasgow and Perth, an area that in my experience seems to specialise in some of the most abrasive and unhelpful call centre staff in the UK along with Belfast including those of Tesco).

In summary ADT is a particularly bad example of some of the very out of date listings on this website complained about recently by Floella although having said that the primary 0800 number at the top of the listings still worked and so having the listings was much better than not having them at all.

I think there needs to be more of a warning in the search system that the results may contain many no longer active numbers and no guarantee is given that any alternative listed (verified or unverified given that our main number verified - Dave M - seems to have retired from the site some years ago) will still work, although in general where they do not work you will simply not be able to complete the call.

I have retitled entries for ADT as ADT Fire & Security. The number 0800 010999 apparently allows access works to central customer services, as too does 01708 544000 (both 0800 and this 01708 answer with the same IVR), we now have a working alternative for 0844 800 1999.

To ensure that there is no non-working ADT numbers in the database I have removed all other entries for the company. This step was taken in the light that there are now working geographic and freephone numbers.

I have posted the entries here for the record. If someone wishes to spend some time going through them and report back on findings (which numbers are not recognised, which go through to the IVR on 0800 010999) then that would be much appreciated by users:

The listings exist "as is" and can only really be made better if everyone pitches in. The more who wish to leave it to others the poorer the quality of the listings will become.

In some cases, where a number is found not to work, it is possible to do some work and come up with an alternative. On quite a number of occasions I have found what are new alternatives languishing in the listings. If people don't wish to do any work to find these then they can't be that interested in having an alternative numbers database that reliably gives valid alternatives.
