Title: Travel Agent Switches From 0843 to 01 number.
Post by bigjohn on Oct 21st, 2013 at 7:55pm
"To help customers save even more, Hayes and Jarvis are switching from national rate to local phone numbers. Previously, a '0843' number was used, with a charge of 5p per minute, this has now changed to a local number: +44(0)1293-735282, meaning much lower local rates "

0843 numbers have never been "national rate" (or "local rate" for that matter).

0843 numbers never cost 5p/min. The bare minimum, from BT, is up to 5.1p/min PLUS a 15p connection fee.

Virgin Media charge up to 12.4p/min PLUS a 16p connection fee.

Mobiles charge up to 41p/min.

As for the new 01 number, "local rate" hasn't existed since 2003.

For most callers, the 01 number will be an inclusive call within a call plan allowance.

Other than that, quite an accurate press release all things considered.

Unfortunately, the accuracy is called into question when one visits the Contact Us page of the Hayes and Jarvis website. Confusion may be caused on learning that Hayes and Jarvis operate on many websites under a number of brands, often offering a 0843 number.

A clarifying statement has been requested, covering all points.

Ah, I see now that I should have used the /sarcasm/ tag. It wasn't accurate at all.

It would appear they only changed 1 number...

the one you ring to book on...

how charitable of them...  >:(

I wonder if they will see fit to change the rest of the numbers!

I am told that many of the numbers have been changed, from 0844 to geo. I am told, with an apology that seems sincere, that the website team will be catching up over the next few days.

Those who may be interested should keep an eye on the websites and try any geo numbers that appear.
