Title: NHS Forth Valley Using 0844

Surprised to see them still using 0844 . So many of the emergency dental help lines have now switched  to 01/02/03 numbers or ask you to call 111.

It is, of course, in Scotland where, unlike in England and Wales, there are no regulations explicitly banning premium numbers.

No surprise there sadly... the whole situation with the United Kingdom is that we only appear to be United in name... what apply's to us does not apply to Scotland or in some cases N.I or Wales...

Anyone who IS covered by NHS Scotland maybe wise to comment or complain here it's at least worth a try....

The issue of use of 084 numbers in the NHS has been raised in Scotland, through the media and in parliament.

A directive was issued by the government some years ago, but has not been followed up.

Some MSPs are on the case, especially with Grampian Health Board which itself uses a 0845 number, as does the main hospital there.

We await the explicit scope of the Cabinet Office guidance which will be issued "shortly". This will undoubtedly cover Whitehall, but we wait to see how far it goes beyond that in respect of the UK public sector. Whatever its specific terms, the message will be conveyed to Holyrood and all other tiers of government in the UK.
