Good morning all.  I have taken out a travel insurance policy with Southdowns Travel Insurance.  Their telephone number to call from abroad in an emergency is 0845 873 4426 and their claims line is 0845 873 4425.  I am trying to find an ordinary number to call from abroad.  Would anyone be able to help with this please?  Thank you, Sals :-/

It appears that the insurance is provided by AXA (as advised on the right of the page)

I would suggest looking in the terms or policy booklet you should have been sent or e-mailed to see if there is a overseas number starting 0044 or +44 for either of the departments you have mentioned..

Then if/when you have found them.. come back here and let us know.

Good morning CJT-80.  Thank you for your response.  The documents I have state, " 24 hour emergency medical assistance +44 (0) 845 873 4426 Claims line +44 (0) 845 873 4425 ". My concerns are that, 1. you cant call an 0845 number from abroad, 2. Even if you can call that number from abroad the charges, especially from a mobile would be extortionate.  I just cant seem to find an ordinary number anywhere. Anyway, thank you for your help, I will just have to ensure I am not ill while I am away ! lol  :-*

I'd in that case suggest you contact them and ask them for a proper international contact number as 0845 is not always usable overseas..

I am sure other forum members can advise where 08 based numbers will not connect overseas.

Southdowns Insurance came up with the best quote for me and my wife who has a pre existing medical condition but worried about the 0845 from abroad due to high costs so I have not yet purchased a policy.

I have sent them an enquiry form asking them to provide a geographical number and I shall get back to you IF I get a reply.  ;)

But this is unlikely to be the alternative to the Medical Emergency Number which given the nature of the calls is probably likely to be answered by a specialised unit.

I am sure that the Medical Emergency is provided by AXA

Based on that I have found a geographic number for AXA medical assistance. However I will check if it's suitable before listing it

Just rang this number and it isn't Southdowns Insurance but a nursery and the lady said she keeps getting lots of calls regarding insurance but unable to help  :-[

Further to my last I contacted AXA and asked them the question about the 0845 contact number and here is the reply.

Thank you for your e-mail.

I am only aware of our emergency assistance number which is 0044 1737 815626.

The geographical number for Southdowns Insurance Emergency Assistance is +44 1737 815649 and that is from AXA themselves as I rang the number above. I apologised about it not being a medical emergency but they fully appreciated my concerns  ;)

With regards to Southdowns Insurance, they DO have a geographical number they are just NOT willing to give it out.

Hopefully ALL insurance firms, including "brokers" will be obliged to switch to either geographic or geographically charged numbers in the future.

I want to thank you for all your help and assistance in obtaining a geographical number for Southdowns Insurance.  I too was given a very good price for an Annual Trip Ins policy as I also have medical conditions, however, it would appear that as the company either don't have or refuse to issue a geographical tel number, it would make a claim from abroad very difficult to make.  I have made a note of the number you quoted and hope it will not be required while I am away. I've listed claims (0845 873 4425) as 01737 815627, as it has such an option, and emergency assistance (0845 873 4426) as 01737 815649.
