Title: Cheapest Calls Winner of the day (AFAIK)
Post by bolsheVik on Aug 21st, 2014 at 6:04pm
Hi boys and girls,
Hope you'll enjoy fun with numbers below. I discovered, for myself, a new cheap calls provider that is linked on this site (in the links section), CallsDiscount, and ran the prices against other 36 providers that I am currently monitoring. What do you know, CallsDiscount is the current winner. Here is my result:

Provider Cheapness Score
CallsDiscount 78
Cheap Calls 77
Auracall 61
Dialaround 47
0844 Calls 45
talkntalk 38
Ratebuster 27
Talk Cheap 25
call2call 19
CheapCalling 19
Low Calls 16
Dialwise 12
Abroadtel 10
the rest < 10

The way I calculate the score is I count for how many destinations a given provider offers the cheapest rate.

To phone their 0161 access number cheaply you need to purchase an  inclusive minute bundle.

To phone their 084 numbers at the rates quoted you need to use a BT Line, some other landline  suppliers charge more to call these numbers.

Not very cheap if your calling from a mobile unless it has inclusive 084 minutes.

Plus of course you start paying even if your not connected (as soon as you hear recorded announcement).

A number of other ways of calling Intl Destinations cheaper exist . Some dont even raise a connection charge. ;)

Thanks for clarifications, Big John.

yes, the free calls are not free but charged at the local number which is "free" for many landline users. I was comparing specific kind of providers (via access number without subscription) but there are different ways of calling abroad including ways from mobile that are better in some ways. I just compared certain type of service.

the initial connection charge is annoying as well as the fact that the time is ticking while you're dialling the number. In addition, some of of the numbers do not work  >:( so you get your connection charge plus a minute only to find out that this access number can't connect you to the country it promises.

by no means those are the best ways to call, but they have their use.
