Title: REQUEST: NHS pension scheme choice number
Post by ash0870 on Mar 9th, 2015 at 3:14pm
Hi,

Has anyone got the local number for 0300 123 1601 (NHS Pensions Choice)??

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

(Called HMRC to correct their error in tax collection. Later found out on my phone bill that I was charged for calling them on 0300 at a premium rate - what kind of sick joke is that by an agency run by public money)

Calls to 03 numbers are always charged at the same rate as whatever you pay for calls to 01 and 02 numbers.

This Ofcom rule has been in place since 2007.

Other than some initial misunderstandings in the first few weeks after these numbers were first introduced, there have been very few breaches of this rule.

Most people call these numbers as part of a deal with an inclusive call allowance and therefore incur no additional charges for each individual call.

The call to the 0191 number will cost exactly the same as calling the 0300 number.

If it does not, you should report your telephone supplier to Ofcom for overcharging you when calling the 03 number.

Totally agree. I had to call my tel provider Virgin and they confirmed that most of the 0300 number are taken by businesses who charge the callers at premium rate including the gov agencies - what a rip off mania!

Is it really worth complaining to Ofcom considering they will bother??

If Virgin Media really told you that, then you should complain to Ofcom because it is completely untrue.

03 numbers are designed to always cost the same as calling 01 and 02 numbers and revenue sharing is not permitted.

Additionally, numbers starting 030 cannot be used by businesses. Numbers starting 030 are reserved for government agencies, public services, charities and healthcare.

I wouldnt bother Virgin Media charge the same to call 01 02 and 03 numbers and have always done. Plus they are included in your inclusive minutes if you have any.

If they did not i imagine a major public outcry would have occurred by now.
