Title: 0870 access numbers are not working anymore? Post by 0870 user on Apr 15th, 2015 at 9:05am
Hello
I used 0870 international access numbers (which is included in my land-phone package) so it saved money. However as of yesterday none of them seems to be operational. Does anyone know any working 0870 access numbers please. Or it is the case that ofcom removed permanently from the register and they are never going to re-appear again? The one I used was 0870 963 00 11 / 05 05 Thanks KS |

Though I hated 0870 numbers dialing from a mobile perspective and this site has helped a lot to circumvent by using 01/02/03/.
Since the last 2-3 years I must say 0870 access numbers were a blessing and it did save me £100s if not £1000s!! - a lot of money using my virginline which had 0870 included in the package. For e.g a 40 min daily call to India would otherwise cost £20 (with talk international or the using cheapest calling provider card/app etc ) - saves at least around £20 per month!. Beauty of it was smartcall app that made it work when abroad - so the savings compounded! I really hope it comes back and hope someone publishes a new working 0870 access number soon :)... From a business perspective - I think there is still revenue to me made from it seeing the connection charges (roughly 11p, though I don't understand the business of access numbers. |

Title: Re: 0870 access numbers are not working anymore? Post by Ian01 on Apr 18th, 2015 at 1:43pm During those times, the termination rate is just above 0.5p per minute which means there's just enough revenue to fund the onwards call forwarding to a limited number of international destinations. Outside of those times, the termination rate is around 0.2p per minute or less leaving no funds available for international call forwarding. From 1 July 2015, the Service Charge replaces the termination charge and is not allowed to vary by time of day or day of week. The Service Charge for numbers starting 0870 437 is provisionally going to be 13p per minute on top of whatever Access Charge you'll pay your landline or mobile provider. Presumably this service will change to a different number before that date. |

No luck yet finding an alternate 0870 number providing international dialing .
I suspect may be I was the only user of these access numbers hence they had to go out of business 8-) |
Title: Re: 0870 access numbers are not working anymore? Post by Ian01 on Apr 25th, 2015 at 9:28am Given that until 1 July 2015 the termination rates for 0870 calls are similar to those for 03 numbers, it might be worth checking the matching 0370 number to see if it works. Unlike 0870 numbers which are Inclusive only from a few landlines, calls to 03 numbers are inclusive from landlines and from mobiles. |

Why the stipulation of 0870 dial through number? A 03 number is charged at geographic rate from landlines and mobiles. |

If someone is generous enough to be able to provide an international dial-through service without receiving any financial benefit from the call then one has to wonder what is going on. The marginal additional termination rate on 03 numbers skews the market and potentially serves to undermine the whole principle of 03 numbers. Ofcom has sought to outlaw use of this to provide consumer benefit, essentially to prevent access to 03 numbers being blocked. 0870 or any other range of Service Numbers (i.e. 084/087/09) is for the specific purpose of providing services through telephone numbers, with a declared charge. If that charge is less than that which would otherwise be paid for the same service (e.g. dialling an international number directly) then that is fine. The fair telecoms campaign holds the view that all "dial-through" services (regardless of the level of the rate) should fall within the scope of "Premium Rate Services" and therefore be regulated by Phonepay Plus. |

That number was posted here ages ago by me see: http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1414036166/0#0 Their are a few services that offer intl calls via 03 numbers during peak time hours. Some are mentioned in this section of the forum. What evidence do you have that 3 are blocking calls to the number ? ,have you tried it ? Normally calls to 03 numbers should be included either in your inclusive minutes,or by you paying the appropriate rate for the call. See: http://ask.ofcom.org.uk/help/telephone/03number Note many numbers used for call forwarding purposes to obtain cheap intl calls can be ,and are not included in networks inclusive minutes. |
