Title: Warning. HMRC Spoof 0300 Calls.Fraud.
Post by bigjohn on May 27th, 2016 at 1:41am
"Police are warning the UK public about a new scam where fraudsters are pretending to be from HM Revenue & Customs, and asking people to pay bogus taxes using iTunes gift cards. Hundreds of cases have been reported to police in the past month, all of which included demands for Apple voucher codes."

The scammers are contacting people in three ways one of which is
Spoofed calls: Victims are  being cold-called using a “spoofed” 0300 200 3300 number.

iTunes gift vouchers? People fall for this?

Presumably, voucher usage is tracelble to an account and a physical device, but not necessarily an owner?

Beware of people selling voucher codes on eBay and elsewhere. This may be one source of those.

This shows, again, that CLI is worthless and cannot be trusted. It makes a mockery of recent regulations requiring cold callers to show CLI.

MEMBERS BEWARE!!!   Neither the H.M.R.C. the banks or any respecting organization will contact customers or clients asking for cash. Never divulge any information from an incoming caller chance are its a SCAM.

AND ALWAYS HANG UP CLEAR THE LINE BEFORE MAKING A CALL OTHERWISE IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE CALLER TO CONTROL THE CALL

"Hello, we would like to steal some money from you."
"How much would you like?"
"£15,000"
"OK, how would you like me to pay you?"
"iTunes gift codes would be great"
"Thanks, I'll do that right now. Thieves are so polite these days."
