Good Evening Andy W

Thank you for letting us know.  Having listened to the automated message for 2 of the listed numbers callers are advised to check AirCanada.com and find the appropriate number for their country.

That number is: 00 800 6699 2222

Air Canada Reservations and Website Assistance

Note this is an international Freephone number (but NOT from Mobiles)

I will replace the existing entries with this number.

:)

Previous numbers are: 0371 220 1111 and 020 7891 8913 BOTH now give the same "no longer in use" message.

EDIT: Additional Information Added

Are international freephone numbers free from UK mobiles?

Almost certainly not free from UK mobiles. Googling
international freephone numbers free from UK mobiles
gives a number of results all of which say they are not free.

Morning, thanks for pointing this out, I wasn't aware.

I have amended my post accordingly and I have amended the entry.  I am now e-mailing Air Canada (via their website) to complain, and see if they can advise of a UK number.

I will report back in time, once I know more.

Some mobile providers do offer free calls to +800 numbers.

Every landline and mobile provider publishes their tariff list online.

To be fair I have given Air Canada the worst case scenario, that they DO charge per minute and it's very expensive.

AC had a working 0371 number (as on our database) that still connects, it just plays an automated message telling you where to find the new number.

Can you explain this?

Does it work or doesn't it work?

Hello Dave,

It connects but it plays a recorded message advising the number has been changed and how to find the new number to call.

Sorry for not being clearer with that.

I have contacted Air Canada with the suggestion that they keep the 0371 number as that is inclusive to call from within the UK.  That's why I have placed a strike through over the entry.

Going to the Air Canada website, selecting the country as Canada, visiting the Contact us page and then selecting Other numbers goes to this page:

https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/home/fly/customer-support/contact-us/other-numbers.html

The number listed is 1 514 393-3333 and the toll-free number for North America is 1-888-247-2262. 514 is an area code for Montreal.

Calling +1 514 393 3333 goes through to the same recording as +800 6699 2222, therefore I think that it is the alternative.

How much would it cost to ring Canada though?

Nothing using the 00 800 66 99 22 22 number from a UK landline.

Apologies I should of clarified I meant the cost calling the Canada number from any UK phone.

There are numerous dial-through providers offering 03 numbers for making international calls to Canadian numbers. For anyone with an inclusive calls allowance for calling 03 numbers it doesn't have to cost anything to onwards dial the +1 number.

As for the cost of calling the +1 or the +800 number direct, the cost depends on which provider is used to make the call, but every landline and mobile provider must publish the prices in their tariff list.

The cost of calling the Canadian geographic number is down to the telephone company being used to originate the call. In the case of the mainstream providers then this might be in the region of tens of pence per minute. Some landline providers charge a few pence per minute. Dial-through providers may get the charge down further.

While domestic numbers may, understandably from call-cost perspective, be generally preferred, the purpose of this site is to list geographic and free-to-call alternatives, of which this is one. Where calls are answered abroad then it is reasonable to expect that any alternative will be an international one, and perhaps this is so here.

Anything other than the international geographic number is therefore a bonus. In this case there is the international freephone number which cost-wise is better from landlines but may not be so from mobiles.

Should we find an alternative UK geographic rate number, that perhaps routes calls directly abroad, then I think it should come in the listings above the international one, because of the likely cost issue.

The saga with Air Canada continues,

a fairly useless reply from their Customer Care team.  Clearly no one read the contents of my e-mail!

I await a further reply after advising them I want it escalated.  :)
