Title: Stena Line Concessions Team Post by BarryS on Jan 9th, 2019 at 2:15am
Looking for an alternative number to reach Stena Line's Central Concessions team given that they'll only accept rail staff bookings by phone (unlike Travel Agent concessionary bookings, which they only accept by e-mail!)
The non-geographic number is 08448 471 471, which would cost me 37p a minute from my mobile (7p a minute service charge and 30p a minute access charge). Thanks in advance for any help! |

Stena certainly like their 084 and 087 numbers:
https://www.stenaline.co.uk/customer-services While it's legal to use such numbers for reservations, it's not legal to use them for support. So their internet support number falls foul of regulations. |
Title: Re: Stena Line Concessions Team Post by Ian01 on Jan 9th, 2019 at 11:43am The page at https://www.stenaline.co.uk/agent-trade-concessions also falls foul of the Ofcom rules requiring the call charges to be declared immediately alongside the number. No such declaration appears. |

I'm not trying to excuse Stena's use of 084 numbers but that page is clearly B2B. For clarification:
1: In B2B environments is it permitted to use 084/087 numbers for all purposes, even where it would be forbidden for B2C? 2: Again in B2B is the cost declaration required? Here is another example. RS Components, who clearly position themselves as B2B only, have an 0845 number on their home page with no declaration: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/ and elsewhere, inculding this customer support page: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/generalDisplay.html?id=support/cant-be-returned |

I assume you are booking a Port Tax Ticket or Vehicle Booking? Why not e-mail the address given on the Concessions page and point out that you cannot call the number provided and ask for an alternative? On a side note I wonder where the call is answered? Perhaps not in the UK hence the (poor) use of the 084 number. |

Just to follow up on this. No joy on the alternative number front, even when mentioning that we can't call 0844 numbers from our phones at work. Their suggestion was to use a mobile!
Bit the bullet and called them and it went through to their offices in Ireland, so I guess an 0844 number is the lesser of two evils compared to an International call. |

In that case then BarryS, the website for Ireland has an identical Trade Concession page with a different phone number.
https://www.stenaline.co.uk/agent-trade-concessions https://www.stenaline.ie/agent-trade-concessions I suggest, therefore, that the alternative is the Irish 01 907 5399 number. This is a geographic number, 01 being the code for Dublin, so it can be dialled from the UK as +353 1 907 5399. You might be surprised at how cheap international calls can be. The main providers tend to charge a fortune, but it is possible to call Ireland for matters of pennies per minute. |
