This relates to Sky Broadband specifically.  I tried the unverified number 0800 0512595 today.  Two automated menu choices and I was speaking to an adviser who answered my questions with no problem.

I had been trying to activate my sky viewing card for sky freesat. Rang the 0870 number for 5 mins and then went to the saynoto0870 website and was directed to this forum. Someone suggested 08702404020 option 1 (thanks)and I phoned that and they answered immediately. They could not help with freesat but gave me tel number 0844824400. I got an answer from that number very quickly !! and they activated my card. You can use this number for other things too but only freesat issues I think.
In fact if you ring the sky freesat 0870 number they say they will shortly be changing to an 0844 number. However if you ring the number, they already have changed to it.

5p per minute at all times to these 0844 numbers they are using.  That is a premium compared to the price charged for standard numbers, for example free in inclusive packages or 5p per call with 18185 / 1899.

I rang SKy customer services on 0800 051 2595 and got a message stating that I cannot ring them from my home number!!

Help... I am fed up with waiting to get through to them and spending a fortune in calls!!

Same message here even if I dial 141 first to withhold my CLI or even if I dial 141 and 1280 to route with BT rather than my normal telecoms supplier.

I think the long and the short of the matter is that they have simply discontinued this 0800 number for incoming calls but have put this confusing message on it to make it sound like some people are still allowed to dial it.  Howver I suppose its just possible that they may now have a predefined list of CLIs they will accept calls from on the 0800 and these are the pre-notified CLIs of their installers and sales agents.

As a Tivo owner I must strongly object to it being suggested that this Tivo specific number can be user for other non Tivo related calls to Sky.

The Tivo team is a specific team of staff at Sky that have been trained to support the Tivo PVR service (http://uk.tivo.com) and whilst these staff do sometimes also handle other Sky calls if they start getting non Tivo regular Sky Digital calls on the Tivo line I am sure they will realise something is up and have the matter investigated by the telecoms manager.

It took ages for anyone to ever find a GN alternative for the Tivo customer services number (I was always forced to call 0870 in the past) so I would be grateful if people didn't spoil this by using it for normal Sky calls that are nothing to do with Tivo and alerting Sky that something is wrong.
