No, it is only a freephone call-through number. If you use it for anything else, it will just tell you the call cannot be connected.

For breakdown assistance try 0161 2161000 and press 1.  Wink

Switchboard also 0161 2165000, but refers to 0800 number for breakdown.

I totally agree about the mobile 0800 scam but there's a simple answer. There are a couple of dial through services, such as 020 0222 0700 that allow you to dial 0800 numbers for the cost of an ordinary call. Which is zero if you have inclusive minutes.

Haven't used it lately so don't know if it still works and I realy don't understand the business model for this kind of service.

If 020 0222 0700 does not work on your mobi. Try 020 0222 0900.

RAC geographical number

I requested a goegraphical number for the RAC membership enquiries, their given number 08703665606. There was only one number which had been left by another member and not verified.  This is to confirm that I used this number 01454208000 and was successful in getting through to RAC customer enquiries - albeit I had to wait a long time for the phone to be answered.

Thanks. I've moved that to the verified listings.  Smiley

A direct alternative (they answer with the same menu) for 0800 828282 is 01922 436000.

Menu options are:

1. New breakdown
2. Existing breakdown
3. Membership enquiries

This number answers as "Barclays Premier Life European Assistance" and has two options:

1) Breakdown assistance in the Republic of Ireland
2) Breakdown assistance in Continental Europe

Please explain.  Undecided

If you call the alternative listed in our database, 01922 436000, you will not have to be transferred as it is identical to calling 0800 828282.  Wink

RAC breakdown number

Hi, I'm looking for a geographical equivalent to the RAC Breakdown call out emergency number 0800 828282. There is one on this site 01922 436000, but there is a note next to it, saying doesn't work for 'Head Office'? I've rang RAC, they say there is no geographical equivalent number.
Many thanks:)

Quoting Dave from another thread........

However, there is a way around the premium charge with mobile services when ringing any "freephone" number. There are a number of services in existance that give you a 01/02/03 number which you ring, and when answered it prompts for the destination 0800/0808/0500 number.

For example,             020 0222 0900      . Dial the number and press the green phone off the hook button (or its equivalent on your phone). Once it answers, it will ask you to input the destination number. Enter the 0800 number but do not press the green off hook button again (as that will initiate a second call to the 0800 number which is what you're trying to avoid).
