The basts keep you hanging on the phone for more than half an hour, at nasty non-geo rates!

Works like a dream!  Grin Grin Grin

Doesn't even go through the normal menus and stuff, just puts you straight to an operator.

I don't know how you find these numbers, but keep up the excellent work.

Journeycall Ltd provide "call handling and fulfillment services" for TfL's Oystercard.

A geographical for Journeycall is on the website: 01561 376070

TFL Oyster Ticketing/Refunds

Does anyone have a geographical number for TFL Oyster ticketing enquiries and refunds. The one listed on this site no longer works and I have sent a notification email through about it.
Thanks

Hello and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

Please can you give us some information to work with?

Specifically:
  • What's the published 08 number you are looking for an alternative for?
  • What is the number listed in our database that does not working and in what way does it not work?

Also, any other information that may help, such as that suggested in the instructions.

This is the listing on the database :
"Transport for London (TfL) - Oyster Card    0845 330 9876  020 3031 9337    Oystercard Ticketing & Refunds
Also for: 0845 330 9881"

I used the 020 3031 9337 number in August and it worked fine but now it just gives an error message and tells me to redial, followed by an engaged signal.

Thanks for that. I will remove it soon.

I listed this number a while back, and as I noted previously, it is in fact a number that goes to London Underground offices, but is (was) diverted to the Oystercard menu number (was same as 0845 330 9876).

Thanks Dave - I will try to call the 0845 number from a phone that does not charge me an arm and a leg for the  pleasure ( ie not my Virgin Media "service" and see if I can find a geo number. Will let you know if I have any success.

Hello Mods and all the community here,

Thanks to Virtual_Jan for looking up an alternative for this, formerly nationalised public service (now turned PFI/PPP money spinner)

Does anyone know of a way we could speed up the handover of a non-0845 number?  Would a request through the freedom of information act be sufficient?

Regards,

Capt.Rabelais

Welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

Feel free to put in a FOI request. Perhaps via WhatDoTheyKnow so we can all see it. There's no guarantee that they would provide the number(s) though.

OTOH, to sleuth the number, we really need to find out where the call centre is based. Does anyone know the company and/or location? Perhaps requesting this information in the FOI would be helpful, as, even if they won't divulge the phone number, they may gave the company's name and possibly the address where calls are handled.

Thanks for the welcome Dave,

I'm just finding out more about how Oyster is operated.  It is managed by Transport for London but it's operated by TranSys.  I'd automatically assume requesting from TranSys would be the way to go.

Any help with how I could word the request to ensure they disclose said companies/numbers for Oyster card phone lines would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Capt.Rabelais

Looks as though TranSys has recently handed over the contract to Cubic:

FOI doesn't apply to private companies and I feel that requesting the number is unlikely to yield results, although you are obviously welcome to try.

There is no reason to say that TfL definately won't release the number if you put in a FOI request.

The question is, where (what company) answers the phone calls? Is it Cubic, or does it only deal with the technical side of it? Perhaps TfL has appointed an outside call centre company to answer calls.

Thanks for the help and useful information Dave.

Interestingly, TfL was unhappy with the value for money that they were getting from Transys, a PFI firm that was created by EDS and Cubic... so now they've handed over the contract to none other than... Cubic.

I suggest that the following be submitted to TfL under FOIA:

I would like some information on the Oyster Card Helpline, whose published number is 0845 330 9876:

1. What organisation answers calls? Are they answered by an outsourced provider, or in-house by TfL?

2. Where are they answered? Please provide an address.

3. What is the landline telephone number(s), which begins with the digits 01 or 02 to which the number 0845 330 9876 points?

It is also worth noting that the published number for London Underground is 0845 330 9880, a similar 0845 number to that of Oyster, and that the main TfL contact page gives the same address for both: 55 Broadway, London SW1H 0BD

Whilst other 0845 numbers on that page are not 0845 330 98xx ones, it does suggest that there may be something in common with those that are similar.  Huh

It may also worth noting that the Oyster textphone number is 020 7027 8511.
