Marks & Spencer (M&S)
Oct 7th, 2004 at 9:49am

M&S hired consultants, Accenture, to "turn its already strong customer service operation into a highly efficient system that responds more quickly and effectively to customer needs".

This meant that the old contact number, 020 7268-1234 was discontinued and 0845 303 170 introduced.

The call centre is in Chester.

Anyone know the geographic number?

The M&S website shows two possibles.

(1) 0044 1244 879 080 - described as an "Overseas General" number

and

(2) 0044 1244 402 859 - described as an "Overseas Internet" number

As both start with the international version of the Chester STD code (01244), I reckon they're fairly good possibilities (I'd try the first, first).

Additionally, one of the entries on their Complaints page lists a freephone number relating to the 'Customer Services Department' at the Chester address - so it's likely you could get them to put you through to wherever:

Quote:
Personal Loans / Car Buying Plan

Any complaint relating to the Loan should be addressed to:

Marks & Spencer Money
Customer Services Department
Kings Meadow
Chester
CH99 9FB

Telephone: 0800 363 400

Sorry but that number is wrong - it's a digit short. It should have been 0845 303 0170 which is in fact the Fax number for
Retail Customer Services
. Their new number is
0845 302 1234
(
Note similarity to the old number 0207 268 1234
)

Heinz

Unfortunately the numbers you've given all relate to M&S Money departments, nothing to do with the Retail side, and we already have them in the listings.  Very interesting result when you ring 01244 402859 ! Roll Eyes

I can confirm the address you gave except that as BOTH divisions are now in the same building, but it would need to be directed to the
Retail Customer Services
. Email address retailcustomer.services@marks-and-spencer.com

I rang the Chester store operator
01244 348441
and they very kindly put me through to the Retail Customer Services in the other building.  Grin  Sorry but I can't find any other alternatives at the moment.

Hi RBJ, I don't know whether this geo no. is way out of date: 0171 268 1234. It is very similar to the out-of-date geo no. that you provided in your original posting. I got this no. at argonet.co.uk/users/john.rose/teleph.html In fact there are several food cos. on this site. This is where I got the geo no. for Sainsburys head office switchboard geo no. Good luck.

I can verify that the geo number for M&S >  01925 672317
listed in the Unverified Numbers Database > http://www.saynoto0870.com/companysearch.php
worked perfectly for me today. [a Saturday]     Smiley

The lady who answered dealt with my query and took my order - I assume she was part of the Customer Service team.

Thanks, but can you give more information.

I have removed the unverified entry you referred to as it was simply:

Marks and Spencer                   01925 672317             The number was on their website as an international number for orders and enquiries (44 1925 672 317). I ignored the 44 and put 0 infront of the other digits

There was no description of its purpose (what department it is for) or what 08 number it is an alternative for.  Undecided

There are, however, two verified entries giving this as an alternative:

Marks & Spencer (M&S)             0845 609 0200       01925 672317             Online helpdesk - Gift enquiries   (Clothing, Flowers & Homeware)   Also 0151 9067902   Also for 0845 7176176 & 0845 6031603

Marks & Spencer (M&S)             0845 604 4604       01925 672317             Online helpdesk - Food enquiries   Also for 0845 7624624 (Furniture)

Can you confirm what the 08 number is that you used it as an alternative for and what its purpose is?

Sorry that I did not explain myself properly.   Smiley
I did not have an 08 number to start, I simply searched the database under Marks and Spencer.
It came up with the link that I quoted, and 01925 672317 was just the first geo number I dialled, and it worked.

I have since searched under M&S and I see there are loads of numbers, guess I just got lucky,
and I thought I'd verified in the same way as I usually do.

This is a shortcoming of the alternative number search engine, which I have brought to the attention of site admin on a number of occasions.

You searched for
marks and spencer
and it brought up the unverified entry (without verifieds) because someone had submitted it with "and" in, rather than "&", the format we use for this company. As I say, I've notified site admin a number of times and nothing has been done about it; it is just something to bear in mind. Note that some companies are listed in our database with "and" instead of "&".

From what I gather, 01925 672317 is given for overseas callers, so that's how it's come to be known. I believe it is primarily intended for online orders, particularly as the automated way in which it is answered is the same as the published 0845 604 4604 number for online food orders. Your call shows that they will deal with other types of enquiry.

Retail customer services is given on the M&S website as 0845 302 1234, whose alternative listed in the database is 020 8718 0888. Whilst this number is working, then I won't list the 01925 number as this 0845 number's alternative.

I just wanted to mention that I tried calling 01925 672317 today and it didn't work. I'm calling from the UK, so perhaps they've blocked UK numbers.

Thanks for posting about this.

I had a look through the entries and it turns out that this number is now 0113 866 3017. Or try 0113 866 3098.

Today, I got, "Not in use" announcement in Spanish and then in English on 0113 866 3017.

020 8718 0888 used successfully instead.

Thanks. Based on submitted, previously unverified, entries, I suspected that the 0113 866 30xx (C&W) numbers have been replaced with 0114 452 13xx (TalkTalk) ones. As such, 0113 866 3017 is now listed as 0114 452 1317.

020 8718 0888 is Retail customer services.
