Once you're registered the sipgate number you then have two choices... the easy thing to do is to download the 1899 phone program here... and then login:

Username = 1899 <YOUR SIPGATE PHONE NUMBER> (for example this could be 189902012345678)
Password = your customer number (check this on your the email they send you).

The other harder option if to add the 1899.com details into the same program you use for sipgate which should be X-Lite... the extra info and settings u need should be: here

Yep, i do exactly that, and for free... only bad thing about it was having to have a new number... don't think i'd be able to port my number from NTL to SipGate... i doubt i'd want to tho, cos my mum would stilll want the landline incase the net goes wrong lol...

With my VoIP Combination... Call to uk landlines are 100% free no connection charges, i also get free phone calls to the yanks (When i'm bored at night i call random for a laugh)... i only pay for calls UK mobiles and the philippines.... (only places my housecalls)... calls

I have been using sipgate and 18866 for some time. I have just added 18866 voip to my xlite and made a test call to my home phone for which I was charged 1p. Prior to doing this I checked with 18866 the cost of a voip call to a landline. The reply was

' Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for your email.

UK Landlines using VOIP service is free.

We hope this has answered your question'

I have now pointed out to 18866 that I was charged 1p and am awaiting a reply.

Thanks for your help.  Option One works fine, but I am having trouble with Option Two.  At the moment I have two softphones (one for outgoing and one for incoming calls).  If I can make Option Two work, would I still have two softphones, or just one?

Does anyone have experience of VoipBuster working?  I have registered and am using a VoipVoice Cyberphone K on my laptop with a broadband wireless connection. If I make a call I can sometimes hear the other person but they can never hear me.  Also, I keep getting logged out of VoipBuster after a few seconds.

The phone microphone works OK for other uses.

Is this all to do with the fact that VoipBuster is useless or is something wrong with my setup?

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Are you using the Voipbuster software ? If you are then I am surprised it is working at all with the CyberphoneK. Rather than using the Voipbuster software (it obviously isnt working for you) Suggest you use Xlite (free download) and set up Voipbuster within it.  Make sure you get the version with the driver for the CyberphoneK and you will be able to use the dial pad for call setup.  You can experiment with two further VOIP accounts within Xlite, have several incoming numbers and select which service you use to call out on.  Info for setting up Voipbuster is at www.voipuser.org - since the official VB forum closed they have a section there for it.

Thanks, gray, I'll try what you suggest.  Strangely, since I posted I have actually made 2 successful calls, but of course not using the cyberphone keypad.

I have now downloaded xlite and forwarded various ports on my router. It's now working some of the time but on most attempts the sound works in one direction but not the other.

Any ideas?

Cheers.
