anyone tried this service from http://www.voipbuster.com/?

I've been a user of 1899.com VoIP for a while, and love it... this voipbuster isn't too bad... has the advantage of not having to sign up to test it out and call loads of land lines for free... disadvanage is that it does send out a cli ad supports less countries....

Not too bad overall, gonna leave it installed may come in handy... but i still prefer a comination of 1899 and SipGate for my incoming and outgoing VoIP...

Wiggler, read your post and because we call Spain frequently, it interested me. I'm prepared to go through procedure of downloading it, but what then ?. Maybe you'd explain to myself and any others that are unfamiliar with this "new" thing, exactly how it operates. ie the actual telephone, do you have to connect a telephone to the computer ?. Sorry for this, but introducing a tempting subject requires a little more info for newbies.  oh yes, I am on 1899 & 18866. islandman

I used voipbuster to call a geographical number was charged 1 pence to my 18866 account when both voipbuster and 18866 claim calls to UK landlines are free!

I have e-mailed voipbuster and 18866 awaiting an explanation!!

hi there, u say u use 1899 and 18866... is this just from a regualr phone??

with this VoIPbuster... u just download the program, then installing... when u first run it you are offered the chance to create an account.. once u;ve created an acocunt, u just dial the number of the landline u wanna call.. and away you go... chat to the people for free... u just need to hae a decent headset, or mic and speakers, plus a fast broadband connection, 300k min really... 56k, if bareable... but not always very clear...

there were sum bugs when 1899.com first offered the beta of the voip, however that has now been resolved... everytime i goto call a landline using 1899.com it says: "Zero pence per minute" then starts ringing, also theres no connection charge.. so yes.. both 1899.com voip and voipbuster.com are free to call landlines...

I made the call over the Internet using voipBuster.  I was under the impression that all landline calls made over the Internet using voipbuster were completely free?

When registering with voipBuster I used my registered landline number prefixed with 1886601XXXXXXXXX as my username and my 18866 account number as my password.

When dialling the number I got the "0 pence per minute" message but was charged 1 pence for the call when I checked my 18866 account.

I dont understand why I have been charged I thought all calls made to landlines using the voipBuster software over the Internet were completely free no connection fee and at 0 pence per minute?

Not sure, yet, about voipbuster's costs, but the 18866 website says that voip calls will still attract the 2p connection charge.

Thanks Wiggler for the explanation. I'm still on dial-up, so maybe it's not something I should get excited about.

I had a look at this SipGate site, and it appears to me you have to register your own telephone number from a choice of NG (Non Geographic) numbers either 0845 or 0870.   So although your calls are free anyone calling you from a land line would pay NG rates.

I realise if you are another VoIP caller there would be no charge and I suppose you only have this NG number given out to fellow VoIP users, so what's the reason for using 0845 or 0870 numbers?

No... With Sipgate, when you register you are given a free geographic telephone number from ANY geo location in the UK, so u get a FREE 01xxx or 02x area code, plus a telephone number... which should be freee for peoepl to call from from things like 18866...

Once you are allocated the number of your choice from SipGate, you then take that number and register it with the 1899.com VoIP service... then using the seeting you're givin you combine the two VoIP services into a sinple program (X-Lite) so u can have both FREE incoming and FREE outgoing VoIP from you pc...

Theres no need for a non-geographic number... the beauty of it. SipGate + 1899.com = VoIP Heaven Wink... well for me anyway... very good service, very cheap, lots of nice features liek voicemail etc...

So let me get this straight.

You use the combination of Sipgate and 1899 VOIP so that you can make calls for free (using 1899) and establish (for free?) a new geographic number for people to call you on?

Yep, i do exactly that, and for free... only bad thing about it was having to have a new number... don't think i'd be able to port my number from NTL to SipGate... i doubt i'd want to tho, cos my mum would stilll want the landline incase the net goes wrong lol...

With my VoIP Combination... Call to uk landlines are 100% free no connection charges, i also get free phone calls to the yanks (When i'm bored at night i call random for a laugh)... i only pay for calls UK mobiles and the philippines.... (only places my housecalls)... calls

Could you explain (in very simple terms) exactly how you do this?  I have a SipGate number and can register it with 1899.com VoIP service, then I'm lost!
