Does anyone know of the Customer Services
( telephone & internet ) for One.Tel here in the UK rather than in India?  I have got the numers from the database, however I would like to speak to someone in this country.

I am sorry JB but this is a totally unacceptable stance.

Your comments show that you clearly have a blanket view of all the Indian employees.  This is known as racial prejudice.

I spoke to Onetel about giving me the free Leisure talk and sure, I got one rep who wasn't really on the ball, but I also spoke to others who were sympathetic to my view and understood my point of my landlind being already registered but not actually using their service.

May I remind you that all call centre staff in India have UNIVERSITY DEGREES.  They are more qualified than their counterparts in this country and I think this is what upsets some people who are clinging on to memories of the british empire.

I suggest you apologise for this and think before you post offensive material such as this again.

Sorry Smasher, that's Orwellian 'thought police' rubbish.  No way was the OP racist.

As a point of interest, I had to call OneTel CS this morning and, using the geographic number from the database, I got through to India for 2p instead of 3p/minute).

However, I had extreme difficulty because of severe audio distortion and satellite delay.  The strong Indian accent did not worry me more than a Scotch one would but the quality of the connection was the problem.

If JB had made clear what the problem was with the overseas call centre, then that would have been a little less ambiguous.  I have come across so many people who refuse to deal with some companies solely on the grounds that they have overseas call centres.  These people I find hard to understand... ???

JB, there is an option on the Onetel website, on the "Contact Us" page.  Select the option for "Directors" on the correspondence page and detail the query there - the directors are the team who work in London.  They are more powerful and so tend to resolve queries more effectively.  I'd register your disappointment with some of the employees in the overseas call centre if I were you.  I certainly have.  Let me know if this works 8)

Lots of people do seem to be put off by there customer service calls being answered outside the Uk.I have seen one company recently making a point in there advertising that calls are answered in the UK.I believe some businesses have actually brought the call answering back to the uk from abroad because of the customer feedback.

Sorry Chaps,  but you are all somewhat off the mark, it is not racialist, it is not because they speak excellant english but with a funny accent, it is not because they are in another country, and certainly is not because they are incapable of doing there job properly. It is not because they are a different colour either.

The real reason is that main users of Indian call centres are the banks, they get richer by paying them less.

Have you any idea what the level of pay is for a fellow (with a degree) in an Indian Call Centre? It is not enough to keep you in dog food.

Whilst the number of fat cats increases in inverse proportion to the services they give, as do their profits.

The banks are getting richer and richer by exploiting people's misery which they caused in the first place!

Ask any employee of your local bank.

They are going on strike I believe?

Its not just banks.Insurance Companies,Telephone Companies,AA,Brit Gas,E Bookers etc etc are all outsourcing overseas, not to just India either! Why because of lower costs as Juby points out.

Its not just a UK thing other countries are doing it.In America they are trying to pass a law to stop it.

At my local Lloyds TSB last week there was a picket outside protesting about call centre jobs going abroad.

There is nothing racist about it. Some matters can only be resolved locally. I suggest the OP contacts Onetel via the Centrica Switchboard, and ask for the Onetel Managing Director's Team. 01753 494000 / 01753 494000.

Next, I know Dave has already told me how to do this, but I've forgotten Embarrassed.  How did you do the url thing to the acronym finder without displaying the actual address?  And how do you insert the text?
