Sunday Times Money
May 29th, 2005 at 10:35pm

Has anyone else read and digested the article in today's Sunday Times - Money.
Banks' £2bn phone-line sting.
The really interesting point is the statement from Ed Knight of Ofcom. He apears to be saying what we feared all along, fixed at going rate for BT, no fix for anyone else and dont call it National / Local Rate.
Well, what a surprise huh?
I really am SO angry that I am lost for words.
Angry

Why should my bank force me to pay more for me to call them than it costs me to call a geographical number?

The answer appears to be,
BECAUSE THEY CAN!

Someone must have been reading the thread I started about Halifax, after all!!
I still think a campaign of being midly disruptive would help - whenever possible ask for replies by mail for example (time is money to banks as well), ask for paper statements, etc etc.
At least when stories like this get printed and this site is given a 'plug' people MAY start to realise what we are on about.

This appears to confirm my comments posted on 27th under NTS review.  The only benefit I can see from this is that this site will be needed more than ever.  My only protest is that I now write explaining why I will not phone on a non geo number and ask the company to quantify the cost of a letter written by them to me against the revenue they would have received from a non-geographic call. Most companies these days are not geared up to writing so causes some inconvenience (also of course to me but I'm prepared to accept that)
