Hi all -- Anyone know of the cheapest way to call the total ripoff hospital numbers -- like 07046 etc??  My brother is in hospital, and you can only call him on a unique 07046 number which costs 46p/min fullrate, 37.5p/min offpeak.  Incredible..

However I was disappointed to find that 1899 won't connect to these numbers -- juist a recorded announcement saying "sorry, 1899 does not offer calls to this destination".

All advice gratefully received (not least my bro!)... Angry

1899 were quoting 15p a min to 070 personal numbers,and 18866 20p a min.

www.dialwise.co.uk ;  part of the same group as 1899/18866 offer calls to them at 15p a min on the
dial through no 0911 501 46 46

Thanks -- but as I say, I get a "not available" message fropm 1899 for 07046- numbers;  and also from DialWise..

So It looks as if the overpriced hospital numbers are being protected somehow...

Perhaps you can try the abroadtel service.

As the previous thread suggests, you can use the 1p minute access number to call more expenseive access numbers in the 0871, 0870, 0844, and 0845 range.

This would include their 0844 number allowing you to call mobiles for 5p minute.

Worth a try to see, if their system can distinguish between the more expensive 070 numbers, and the mobile numbers of 077, 078, and 079.  If they allow anything after 07, then bingo, you get to call at 1p minute.

Please let us all know how you get on, and also hope your brother gets well soon.

There is a posting on Money Saving Expert site re the 1899 access not working. But it says if you use 0808 cable access no it works from your landline 15p a min.

I'm pretty sure they will realise what is going on, and close this loophole pretty soon

Especially now that you have published this method of abusing their system on here.

If you are going to exploit a technical mistake by a company in a way that they would probably be able to take you to court for if you did it in large amounts and they managed to identify who you were then its best not to tell the world about it on the web!

If it had been a legitimate new bargain rate then please do of course tell everyone out there.

Loophole has now been closed Cry

At least I think so - I tried to dial their 0844 access number for a different international destination and it showed up as busy.  Then I tried the 0871 for mobile and that just cut me off Sad

Ah well, another 5p down the drain. Roll Eyes

What they said if you use the 1899 access no
0808 1 708 708 which is normally used for access by cable customers, you will get through at 15p a min.Good luck.

And that's exactly how/why, from my BT line, I still use them for my calls to Spain at 1p/minute (bizarrely, using their 1899 prefix costs 2p/minute).

#23 -- Thanks a million BigJohn!  Works a treat!  (Wonder how long for, though...)

Anyway my bro sends his thanx as well. 15p/min is a big improvement, & means we can all talk to him nearly 4x longer for the same money.  Brilliant.

Dialwise have now put up their charge for calls to Mobiles from 4p to 10p on a different access number 0871 999 48 48

If you call the old number you get a recorded message giving the new number, and of course you get charged for the call!

The links to Dialwise on the cheapest calls page need to be updated/changed asap to stop everyone else calling the old number.

Yes.

The cheapest supplier of calls from a landline to a uk mobile at peak or evening times is now
abroadtel. 0844 452 0005 (5p).
www.abroadtel.co.uk

If using Abroadtel dont forget to put the mobile no in intl format.

Yes, but my last two attempts to call my own mobile, as a trial, returned the message that my mobile was engaged.
Surely not a scam?

I had this problem as well a few times.  I'm guessing they don't have as many lines available and can't handle as many calls as Dialwise could.

I think (as mentioned little earlier) that Daniel needs to be informed so I'm gonna post this in an existing topic in 'Site Related'.
