Yes, but my last two attempts to call my own mobile, as a trial, returned the message that my mobile was engaged.
Surely not a scam?

Yes i tried this today ,and  once i got through and the other time the call failed. They appear to route these calls out of the uk and back, and probaly dont have enough lines to carry traffic.

Yes, but there is a difference between "Network Busy" and "Called Subscriber Busy"...
Scam or sloppy?

AbroadTel's 1p minute number can no longer route calls to 0870, and 0871 numbers!!

Oh well, it was good whilst it lasted.

Back to the original topic of this thread, Dialwise have now withdrawn their 4p a minute UK mobile access number and now show a new number costing 10p a minute.

That's a price rise of 150%!

I suspect it was a loss leader to combat abroadtel, and when they found abroadtel only worked sporadically they pulled it.

I have been using Telesavers today to phone my son in Singapore for 2p a min. Seemed to work well . http://www.telesavers.co.uk/

Am always looking for a cheaper way of phoning mobiles from a land line. There was one I used last week but it's not working anymore!!

Especially now that you have published this method of abusing their system on here.

If you are going to exploit a technical mistake by a company in a way that they would probably be able to take you to court for if you did it in large amounts and they managed to identify who you were then its best not to tell the world about it on the web!

If it had been a legitimate new bargain rate then please do of course tell everyone out there.
Sorry for replying to this so late, and also after the event - I was abroad for over 3 weeks.

I made the same discovery as Shiggaddi about this, and put rather cryptic clues to it on MSE in June before I left.

Was it a technical mistake, was it unfair to exploit it?

They gave automatic instructions to do this, so could hardly claim that the use was fraudulent or abusive - if you called their 0845 number then attempted 0044871--- the message told you to redial using the 0844721 access number.

So what's the latest news?  Is Dialwise's 10p/min currently the best price for dialling mobiles from landline?

Abroadtel,s 9p a min no 0871 342 00 09 is currently the cheapest!!!
But for reliability i suggest you use 1899. 10p a min weekdays,3p at weekends.plus 3p connection charge.
