Calls to Mobiles just 4ppm
Jun 26th, 2005 at 10:09pm

Having just read this thread by pricefighter on the MSE forum, you can now dial mobiles for only 4ppm via DialWise.co.uk's mobile access number 0844 428 46 46.

I can beat that!!!  Now for the lowest ever mobile price, and that is 1p per minute!!

And as for 0870, 0871, and 0845, also 1p per minute!!

How??  Well, as discussed on this board about 3U, someone suggested that you can call 0844 721 0001 for 1p per minute, and call UK landlines, but there is a slight glitch in the system, and you can call non geographic numbers as well.

Therefore, once you call their 0844 number, you can then dial a more expensive indirect dial service up to 10p minute, and still only pay for the original 1p minute call!!

Therefore, you can use their own 5p minute number for mobiles, as the destination number for 1p minute, then call the mobile number as your destination number once connected to the 5p minute line.

I'm pretty sure they will realise what is going on, and close this loophole pretty soon.

Have you tried it did it work. I was messing around with various combinations of these numbers earlier and when i called  either of the two new cheap mobile rate numbers via 0844 721 0001 it said they were busy and wouldnt connect me.

(ADD) I have just tried to ring the Cheapest Calls  0871 999 17 17 mobile access no through 0844 721 001.It worked. I then rung a mobile all for 1p a minute.I cant see this loophole lasting long.

Beware AbroadTel - I'm pretty sure it's a scam company.

Every so often it doesn't connect or keeps you holding.  I've actually spent more trying to connect than I did when I simply used 18866! Angry

Well, I have used their 1p minute number to call higher rate numbers, or mobiles, and yes there are problems connecting sometimes.  Just remember to dial any additional numbers in international format, ie 00 44 870...... or 00 44 (77, 78, 79) for mobile.

As for the cost, I have checked their prices, and it is indeed charged at 1p minute from landlines.

I used the service to call just dial, and it even said they were engaged!!  However they don't hang up, instead they allow you to press 1, to try the same number again, or an alternative number, which means you don't pay a minimum charge or connection charge for this, and I got through on the 2nd time!!

I can't see any scam here.  They correctly price the calls.  The failed calls, are probably a technology issue, and they do allow you to keep trying again, if they don't connect you, and of course their loophole has allowed people to call more expensive 0871 numbers for 1p minute. instead of 10p!!

Have you looked at the FAQ ?

You get charged as soon as you are connected to the DialWise number....    Even if the mobile don't answer..

Ah, just like calling a mobile that does not answer, or with very slow voicemail. But at 4p per minute still worth a try?

I didn't get an option to redial the number - just bleeps and silence which was probably the original attempt to connect.

May give this 1 per  minute mobile thing a go...

I understand the slow voicemail comment, but not the does not answer comment.

When you call a mobile using a standard service or indirect access provider you are not charged to be told the phone is unavailable, switched off or busy, however with call-through providers you will be as you are charged as soon as you connect to their system.

I believe that you will be charged to listen to mobile ringtone with at least two of the providers.

Which two are these, certainly not T-Mobile, Orange, O2, Vodafone, Virgin, easyMobile and Fresh (the only ones I can remember at the moment).

Right, well that's my age showing, because I remember that we found that O2 (Cellnet as was) and Vodafone both charged upon connection to ringing; only discovered when Mercury offered charge tone on their network. Orange and Mercury One-2-One were revolutionary in that they did not so charge.
Thank you for correcting me politely - must check more thoroughly before posting  Embarrassed

No worries, I had a feeling you meant O2 and Vodafone, as you are correct at one time they did charge, they were however forced to stop this a few years after One2One and Orange launched.
