You may find that the 0870s go to the same geographical numbers which were used before NGNs were put in place. If you do find this, build up a list of all 0870 numbers and what their geographical equivalent is. I see sales is an 0871. Wouldn't touch that with a bargepole!

Discovered some more info about a few different numbers. 0870 729 5555 is the main Watford Electronics number from many years ago, as was 0800 035 5555 (now Cartel Communications).

The series

01582 745555

(hence 0870 729 5555) and above all came from the period when they were in the building opposite, shared with

Huntleigh Medical

. When they moved (as mentioned above) all those numbers now seem to have been taken over by Huntleigh, as I found when I managed to get answers to my calls. Many thanks to them for their help.

I have carried out a careful Google search on this company recently. I put in such criterion as 'Watford electronics' '01582' amongst other things but WITHOUT 0870 or 0871. It came up with a few redundant geographical numbers.

It seems that they changed their Geographical numbers and then diverted them to the premium rate numbers. It seems that they have done all they can to hide their original geographical numbers. Even Directory enquiries has all their listings as either an 0871 or 0870 numbers.

I e-mailed them recently and asked them to provide me with their Luton based Geo number. They e-mailed me back and asked me to correspond with them by e-mail.

I would simply refuse to do business with this company. If they have to rely on making a 'kick back' out of the customer's call costs then something is wrong. In the USA it seems that a lot of businesses have 'toll free' numbers and they are over much bigger distances as well. Just e-mail them and tell them that unless they disclose their conventional geographic number that you will refuse to do business with them.

I too have not managed to penetrate the wall - yet!?

I have at least managed to get through on email - but I will not be using this supplier again.

I did buy from them before, not realising what could happen if things went wrong (or all the negative comments about them out there on the web!

Ironically their head honcho has had some really positive publicity for the work he is doing in the community!

If I get any more info I'll post it here!

They are in the unverified list with this entry:
Watford Electronics 0870 7295555 01582 745555 It seems that all their 0870 numbers can be changed by replacing 0870 729 with 01582 74 ... now if only they would answer the phone!

Sadly, this is no longer true - 01582 745555 rings but is not answered, while their 0871 666 1616 number goes throuugh to the call centre after two rings.

I also tried 01582-487777 which I found on Google - the number has been re-used for BNUK - "they haven't been here for years" said the bloke.

Can anyone help?

But is it really no longer true? I believe that some NGNs answer the call and wait until the geographical becomes free, rather than the geographical answering and giving you the hold music. This would make sense (for the company, at least) as it allows for more calls to be answered than they have lines. Also, if it were not to answer within so many minutes it will cut out as there is a limit to how long you can ring a number with no answer. Of course, I'm sure that today's privatised telecoms companies would love to make this as small as possible as they don't get any revenue from a call connection that is ringing unanswered. That's where answering services come in like BT 1571 and Orange Answerphone.

Anyway, I suggest that you try the geographical and hang on until it cuts out. Also, if you use 1899, use your normal provider as 1899 might terminate unanswered calls sooner.

DaveM, I can't find where it's mentioned above, so do we know where they have moved to as Jessica House, LU1 1WE is still the address for the SAVASTORE.COM domain (see here).

Hi!

I worked through this thread and noted down all the numbers mentioned (I think). Here are the results:

01582 745555 – rang unanswered for 3 minutes – I gave up
01582 488588 – re-used for OPG Ltd
01582 650888 – reused for Businesslink IT services
01582 650900 – number unavailable tone
01582 745577 - rang unanswered for 2 minutes – I gave up

It looks to me like they took on a new 0870 number and gave up all their old numbers - which is unusual because there must have been some people who had the old number written down.

Watford Electronics are a computer manufacturer. I bought a computer from Savacentre (which is their sales arm) and it has had to be returned for repair under warranty. The computer was returned on 12.1.07 I have already spent over £10 calling their number 0871 666606 and holding on forever. Now I refuse to incurr any further costs and am emailing them daily to their preferred route of communication - their customer service department. I am waiting to see how long it takes to receive a reply. Embarrassed

I am utterly despairing and would be grateful for any help!

I did not manage to find the geog number for Savastore/Watford Electronics but the following may be of interest:

just ordered a Core 2 Duo laptop from Savastore and I found that Customer Services are hard to contact by email as they don't answer emails sent to their customer services email address and to call them costs 10p a min and you have to wait over 20 mins usually.

Looking on this thread and others I found 3 email addresses that you can use to contact Savastore I emailed all three and had a reply in 2 hours.

They are;
