Internet dial up

Has anyone changed their internet pay as you go dial up number from the 0845 number to an 01 number, does it work or does provider re-route the call.

A couple of threads on ISPs with geographical numbers are running in the Requests section:

I don't know about other providers, but if you are on BT Together, alot of these are excluded from the geographical 'discounts' and are charged at 0845 rates. See BT Together ISP and numbers exclusion list on BT's site.

See the posting at Landlines for ISP's which gives you a choice of some useful numbers !

I am with OneTel and use the Geo numbers to call my various dial-up accounts monthly. There are great problems though if you are with BT and some other phone providers, who will block the calls.

It can save you having to get an Anytime account.   Grin

I just read that and cannot believe it. BT actually discriminate between a voice call and a modem call. As far as the equipment is concerned there is no difference. That stinks. It's like saying you can call your mother for free but if you call your granny in the next street it costs a premium rate. Unbelievable

If you're with Onetel, don't they invoice the calls on the monthly bill?  Therefore what benefit is there of using the geo number?

I'm on the basic plan of 1.5p per minute and I use an 0800 to dial-up and then when authenticated with their server, my usage is clocked and then charged to my monthly bill.
