BBC Coventry & Warwickshire
Sep 22nd, 2005 at 10:58pm

I have recently tried to find the new number for BBC Coventry & Warwickshire (phone-ins and ACtion Desk).  They use two new 0845 numbers since they moved house.

0845 900 5200 is the phone-in number
0845 900 5300 is the Action Desk.

I asked the BBC for their geogrphaic equivalent number and they have refused to give it to me.  I got a response from the BBC's Freedom of Information Office

The response states that BBC, Channel 4 and S4C are only governed by the Freedom of Information Act "only in respect of information held for purposes "other than those of journalism, art or literature".  They are not obliged to supply information held for the purposes of creating its output (ie programmes). or information that supports and is closely associated with these creative activities, and they consider that information about their geographic telephone numbers is held to support their output.

The BBC;s rules on this is in their Editorial Guidelines.  Telephone services are in section 15 "Interacting With Our Audience" at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/guidelines/editorialguidelines/edguide/interacting/

(Tjhey stated the obvious saying that the test transmission statement you referred to has now ended).  My point there was that that particular information was a lie, because it stated that the numbers were "at the cost of a local call".

My point is that we pay enough for the BBC through the licence fee.  That should be the BBC's only form of income.  So, why should anyone be forced to pay extra to interact with a public service.  The number currently listed, 02476 231231 no longer works, as the station has moved to the other side of the city.  Their numbers there now begin 02476 539xxx, and some are in the 551xxx and 552xxx range.  I would be interested to see reaction to this.
