elcondor, What numbers have you tried, ie which prefixes with which suffixes?

I suggest you try the prefixes with the last 3 digits of the extension and 0 to 9 as the third digit, EG:

01904 320xxx
01904 321xxx
01904 322xxx
01904 323xxx
01904 324xxx     etc

I've recently moved rooms, and my new one still has an ACC sticker on the phone, the number now reads 08700 43**** where **** is the last four digits of my extension.

Presumably, this means that Dog 'n' Bone uses ACC's old numbers as far as it can - does anyone know them?

ACC was the original phone provider at York, and pretty much all the telecoms equipment in the older buildings still features their logo.

They later became NETNet, and went into financial trouble - usually their interests were bought out by Dog 'n' Bone.

As for trying the number, it's invalid for my extension, so presumably there's some other element at work (my phone socket has 031 on it)

According to the OP, numbers were 0870 758xxxx in October 2005. This is a Your Communications prefix, as too is 0870 756.

Your Communications is now part of THUS plc, so it could be a THUS 01904 number: 01904 85xxxx

where the last three digits, shown in the example as 123 are the last three digits of your internal extension number and 0870.

If some numbers answer, see if you can ascertain whether they are in the University's halls and if so, what their extension is. Make a note of those numbers.
