elcondor, What numbers have you tried, ie which prefixes with which suffixes?

I suggest you try the prefixes with the last 3 digits of the extension and 0 to 9 as the third digit, EG:

01904 320xxx
01904 321xxx
01904 322xxx
01904 323xxx
01904 324xxx     etc

I've tried 325XXX so far, since that matched the 0870 number, but I'll be triyng the others fairly soon.

I've recently moved rooms, and my new one still has an ACC sticker on the phone, the number now reads 08700 43**** where **** is the last four digits of my extension.

Presumably, this means that Dog 'n' Bone uses ACC's old numbers as far as it can - does anyone know them?

0870 043 is allocated to Telewest, change dated 07/1999.

There is one Telewest prefix in York, 01904 292 change date 02/2006. So if that was the date it was allocated, then it might be too new.

What's ACC?  Huh

ACC was the original phone provider at York, and pretty much all the telecoms equipment in the older buildings still features their logo.

They later became NETNet, and went into financial trouble - usually their interests were bought out by Dog 'n' Bone.

As for trying the number, it's invalid for my extension, so presumably there's some other element at work (my phone socket has 031 on it)

I'm going to bump this, since I have new info.

My original 08700 43**** number has been disabled, to be replaced with

08707 56**** , where the last two digits match the last 2 digits of my room number.

elcondor, what 01904 numbers have you tried, either now or when you originally posted on this thread?
When they changed numbers, was there a down time when you couldn't used the phone?
Any other clues as to what telco it could be?

According to the OP, numbers were 0870 758xxxx in October 2005. This is a Your Communications prefix, as too is 0870 756.

Your Communications is now part of THUS plc, so it could be a THUS 01904 number: 01904 85xxxx

I've just tried the Thus one you've mentioned, and that's invalid by the looks of things.

I'll try a few more, and report back.

Going by the other ones we've found, the last few digits relate to the internal extension number rather than the 0870. Try changing the digit after 01904 85:

ie

01904 850123
01904 851123
[...]
01904 859123

where the last three digits, shown in the example as 123 are the last three digits of your internal extension number and 0870.

If some numbers answer, see if you can ascertain whether they are in the University's halls and if so, what their extension is. Make a note of those numbers.

I've done the lot, and no joy.

I've been told that the University itself runs this, and these particular 0870s have been running for about 3 years.

I'm tempted to try the 71 idea, simply because most of our other extensions use that kind of logic.

Information here which gives a link to here.

I mentioned Catalyst Management earlier on in this thread here.

How do I make a call from any other phone?

From telephones not on the University network you need to dial 0800 064 1334 and then follow the voice prompts.

0800 064 is an NTL number. NTL's 01904 prefixes are listed in my previous post.

I have a problem with the Dognbone service, what is the Dognbone Customer Services Number?

The customer service number for the Dognbone service is 9 0808 144 3709 (Dial 1413 on campus). This called is free.

But 0808 144 is a Your Communications number prefix.
