Mobile rates to NGN
Nov 1st, 2005 at 4:46pm

Hi, I'm new to this so apologies if this has been covered before.  Basically I've recently started using O2 for my mobile and I couldn't find anywhere on their website the cost of calls to non geographic numbers or whether or not they're included in the free call allowance.  (At least with Orange the call costs are listed on the website if you look hard enough).

So, anyway I sent them an email and got this (slightly vague) response:

"Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service.

The majority of 08 Numbers should be included in your free allowance however you should check the call charges for each number with the company you are calling as they determine the cost per minute of the call. If the charge of the call is standard rate then the call should be included in your free allowances. Some companies may charge higher rates, which would exceed the cost of a standard rate call so these calls would not be included in your free allowances."

My question is does anyone know exactly which calls are included with O2 and which aren't?  Also, who are the best mobile network when it comes to including such calls?

Thanks.

The rates you pay are set by O2, not by the service provider who advertises the number.  They should be able to tell you what the rate is, given the number -- but I'd expect most 0845's to be charged at one rate, and most 0870's to be charged at another rate.

Check out Ofcom's smaller consultation which is currently running -- the one on pricing transparency for NTS.  Their proposals should address this sort of problem, where phone companies don't tell you what their prices are.

O2 are in fact the only mobile network that allow you  to make calls to ngn 0800/0844/0845/0870 numbers out of your anytime anynetwork minutes.(Not 0871).

They also allow you to call these numbers out of your O2 payg inclusive/bolt on x-net minutes.

Anybody wanting a free 02 payg sim visit
http://smartpromo.o2.co.uk/form.php

When you get it elect for 100 anytime minutes instead of 300 texts.Top up by £10 your get 100 minutes of NGN,  01/02, and Mobile X-net calls, and you still get to keep your £10 to spend.

But how much do you pay per month?

And do you get any benefits every 12 months?

I pay a monthly £20 for 1000 minutes (0870, landline, and other O2 mobiles) however because I got it from an online mobile shop that gives about 9 months free line rental, I'm paying more like £5 per month, and after 12 months, I have a phone that can be sold.

And after I recieve the rebates from the just dial number, which accounts for the majority of the calls, I'm actually slightly better off by having this phone!!

Oh yes, apart from the 1000 minutes, I get 100 texts which don't get used up, and 25 x network off peak minutes, which usually get used up to call just dial's 0870 via 07744 (well need to make use of my 1025 minutes)

I also have two of these contracts!!

O2 aren't the only network to allow 0870 numbers to be part of your minutes package. If you are on one of the old Orange price plans (Talktime 30/60/120 etc.) they allowed it as well.

Nope not any more they dont.. I was on a 300 min package and it was quite an old tarrif, when they slapped the 0800 charges on they changed all the NGN as well.
