Heard this morning,for the first time ever,the traffic report during the phone in,they gave out the 0870 number to report traffic jams,then added, "costing no more than 8 pence per minute". Whilst this might be a move forward, the statement is not quite true as surely the majority of calls to this number will be from a mobile therefore costing up to 40 p per minute!

Yet another uphill battle. What a shame that the beeb no longer employs appropriate telecoms people, or perhaps even in these post-Birt days they still have to charge departments for their advice.

A geo number is better as most mobiles are charged for an 0800 number which will not be part of inclusive minutes in call packages and in some cases more than a geo number
