... My company spends around £50 per month ringing the 0870 number at Harrison and Clough, so this is a real saving. Word has it from past employees, that they are encouraged to "hold" people on the line too. Disgusting eh? ...
£50 a month!
Can't you order from them online?
And how much of that goes directly to Harrison & Clough? Assuming you're talking from a landline in the daytime, a pure guestimate, I would say in the region of £10 to £20. How many man-hours is it that your company spends on the phone to this company?
Would you respond to Ofcom's consultation on this issue? Ofcom (the government regulator for telecoms) believes that companies don't keep callers on hold to make money on 0870 numbers. More information on this in the
Chat section of the forum and on the
consultation information pages. You don't have to comment on all the ins and outs (although if you've got time that would be good), but just put your company's experiences with 0870s.
For the savings you've quoted it must be worth spending a little time to do this. If you have any more questions or need any more guidance about this, don't hesitate to post here.
