But are you using "lady" to mean any (adult) female of the human species?
I thought that that is frowned upon by the PC brigade and that you should use "woman" to mean that?
Does "lady" indicates a particular class status?
I find that the terms woman/women also has a particular perjorative meaning in respect of an adult female as also does the use of the term girl/girls (often used for women up to anywhere around 35 to 40) and spinster. Female does not have these perjorative meanings but sounds cold and clinical.
In any case I am not a member of the Politically Correct brigade so prefer to use this description and also to commit other heracies the PC crowd would not approve of such as sending cards that say Happy Christmas rather than Seasons Greetings.
Lady is preferable to Girl since it does not apply an assumption about age other than that the person concerned is female and at least 18 years old.
For the avoidance of doubt, I agree with you on all of the above - I was merely playing 'Devil's Advocate' (and going somewhat off topic!).
