I googled around a bit for 0845 0554454 & found 0554454 0845 Businesses By Cheaper Phone Bill which is a dead link. Trying the main site to see if it made sense, I couldn't find any contact details - see if you fare any better ! Looking at the way the site is constructed & some of the grammatical errors, broken links, etc., they seem a operation so likely to resort to the sort of underhanded methods you're experiencing.

Looking for 0845 0554454 &  "0845 055 4454" got me overture.com search terms of interest's Journal which seemed to be someone elses search results that I couldn't interpret, so I left it !

Nothing else came up I'm afraid !

Apologies Dave, I should have been clearer first time. Just adding the number back to the thread for anyone else searching it as reported via 1471 (with pause/space between after second 0, rather than first 5). Glad its been indexed already!

Hey guys, i had the same number ring me 3 times in one hour, so i called BT.

BT service was fast as hell. I got through in maybe 2 mins with this number  0800 800 150 Its an automated service, but nucence calls seem to be taken very seriously. The woman told me i should register with a BT service. Its all free BTW, so dont worry about paying more money.

So for business calls like this one, ring 0800 121 8000. Register with these guys, and it stops spam phone calls. I also asked if it will stop credit card companies ringing me 5 times a week, and she said it would.

Remember, the numbers are free, and you get through pretty easy. Just give them a call if you have any more problems.

I just wanted to say thanks to you guys for adding the number for google. I picked it up that way (it was the first hit) and registered with TPS right away. I'm a little annoyed as my number is unlisted and I never give it out. So how these guys got it is beyond me.

Thanks for pointers an tips Dave. Seems that nearly 1 year later MKD told Ofcom that they were being good and Ofcom closed the case. A £5k fine would hardly be a deterrent anyway.

Mine was also to a long-standing unlisted number that has never given out.

Maybe I am being overly simplistic, but with complete UK number listings only costing £200-£300 why not class any firm's cold-call to an unlisted number ( unlisted > 18 months) as misuse, silent or otherwise. Surely then it would be clear and quick to identify repetitive misuse under subsection 6 of
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2003/30021--c.htm#128 ; (Communications Act) and  the regularity of £5k fines would become a real deterrent. I feel TPS should only really be necessary to protect those with listed or recently unlisted numbers.

Ofcom takes silent call complaints automatically here http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain.

I am now curious as to anyone actually recently having got a non-silent call from this number or the number of rings before call was answered/abandoned, just to rule out the practice of live number pinging. But that is going way off topic here, so if anyone is bothered, PM me during the next week and I'll supplement my complaint with any useful stats.

I've just been rung by these "waste of spaces".
I've also been rung by 0870 3008115
Apparently it costs you between 7p & 8p to listen to some recorded messages, 4p of which goes to the company that uses the number.
Now..... I just listen before answering & wait for them to put the phone down, before putting the phone down myself.

If you've have problems with MBNA ringing you up trying to sell you extras for your credit card, I asked the asian chap, who was NOT in a call centre in India!!! (ha) if he knew.....
"What the sound of a MBNA credit card sounding like when it was being cut up ?"
"No" came the reply from the asian gent (who was NOT in an Indian call centre)
"This is what the sound of an MBNA crdit card sounds like when it's being cut up"......as I proceeded to cut up my MBNA card.
Strangely enough, I've not had any phone calls from MBNA for over a year now!
