TalkTalk block 18866 and others

Just went to use 18866/1899 on talktalk and they say 'i cannot use indirect acsess code from this line' - contact your provider.


Just off the phine to talktalk and yes they have blocked all indirect acess codes. An IAC block apparantly. They will not be lifted.

They would not lift it no matter what i said but i asked that if i changed my line rental back to BT (as many TT cusomers have line rental npw with them)would the ban still be in place?

The operator went away and asked. What do u know - the operator came back and said they would lift it.

BT are the only provider that has to allow you access to short codes eg 18866.Thats one of things you should take into account before you move your line rental from BT,the other is the possiblity you will end up paying more for your line rental and calling features package.

IACB ( Indirect access call barring) can only be applied to line rental customers.It cannot be applied to customers who have just cps their calls and kept their line rental with BT.You can still use the freephone and 020 access numbers i believe.But your calls would be dearer.

1899 is now cheaper then 18866 for 01/02 calls. Wink

CPS = Caller Pre Select where the subscriber does not have line rental with the supplier but their calls automatically go through the selected telco i.e you have line rental with BT but aotumatically put your calls through TalkTalk,  unless you prefix with a short code,18866,1899 etc.

That had me worried as OneTel have now been taken over by Talk Talk, so I quickly tried ringing my friend in Germany and all is OK (PHEW !!) 1899 is working OK so I assume the others will also.

Saying that, it doesn't mean that they won't get round to stopping it sometime soon so I need to keep an eye on that.

Also, NO mention from them yet about the move, charges going up, or indeed any changes at all to my callplan & rental rates.

Has anyone else had any problems with the OneTel changeover yet !?  Undecided

None here as well but they have put some charges up like line rental.  OneTel have this difficulty informing their customers of any increases.

We've just initiated transfer of our calls from OneTel to Primus Saver option 3.  It's an all-inclusive plan (daytime, evening & weekend) for £3.49 a month (taking into consideration the £5 new customer rebate).  I discovered and posted on MSE here.  I think its worth it depending on your usage, etc.

Hi there!

I have an email from an employee from Onetel ( now TalkTalk ) and she advised me:

" We are in the process of advising all our customers about the TalkTalk takeover.
I personally am unsure as to who and when will be migrated to TalkTalk as I am unfortunately not privvy to that kind of information.

Once I do manage to find out, I will come back to you. But you should shortly receive communication from us about the whole TalkTalk merger. "

I also sent and received the following from Onetel Customer Services / TalkTalk:

Dear ***********

OneTel have just increased their line rental by 50p  to £10.49p a month.The same as Talk Talk. Shortly after they increased the line rental Talk Talk applied the IACB to line rental customers.(IACB costs 50p a month per line to be applied!!!)

If you have only got your calls CPS to Talk Talk,and your line rental with BT it seems your be ok to call 1899 etc.

As a user of Talktalk CPS with a BT line I confirm that access to 1899 etc is still possible as of last night.

That is because BT is your line provider and under their licence can not block short access codes, if you change your line rental to TT, they can block these numbers under their T&Cs.

Found this in Talk Talk's terms and conditions:

3.13 If you are a Line Rental Services customer and elect to use another provider for some or all of your calls we may at our sole discretion decide to: (i) cancel your calls order with the provider concerned (ii) bar your use of indirect access codes, (iii) charge you a higher fee for your use of the LR Service or (iv) disconnect the LR Service.

Your find this sort of clause in most of the alternative  line rental suppliers T&C .TT are the first and i guess they want be the last to enforce it. Wink

They cannot stop you from using the 0808........ access number though. I have to use this from NTL. The downside is higher call costs, but you may still save money under certain conditions.
The other niggle is that I cannot program 22 digits into my phonebook.
