Can't dial +44 numbers?? Help!
Mar 8th, 2006 at 10:57am

Hi,

I have signed up for a BT PAYG account but I cant seem to call +44 numbers? When I put +44...number in the dialer nothing happens. But when I just dial the normal number it connects? Any help appreciated...

Ah. Where are you based?

If in the UK then delete the +44 and replace it with a 0.

Try that and let us know how you get on.

I'm guessing here at why you might be putting +44 when calling form the UK.

Are you using a callthrough number that tells you to include the country code? If so, use 00 instead of the + as some non-GSM networks don't recognise it or the double * that would create it on the number pad.

This might also occur with some other similar arrangements.

If it isn't that, then I'm not sure what the problem could be.

No let me explain myself a bit clearer - on the page for BT ISP PAYG the number is listed and it gives this piece of advice;

BT- PAYG Dial-Up;
Use FULL International number otherwise ISP exclusion list means you will be charged the 0845 rate

But when I put +44 or 0044 before the number 121 4789200 in my dialer for the internet it doesnt connect. Also when I try calling the number on the phone (landline) the +44 doesn't work, and the 0044 isn't recognised???

I don't want to be charged full 0845 rate because if I am there is no point dialling in on an 0121 number.

I was still confused by this, but maybe you mean the sayno... page for BT's number. I'm not sure which company you are trying to call from or through (1899?), but some may still block the number.

Or maybe your number is withheld or ex-directory, and you need a 1470 prefix? - most ISPs need to know the number you are calling from
