First Check Point, now CASAC Check Point, launched by the Leeds Distraction Burglary Initiative in 2001 and funded by the Home Office, was set up to provide an approved list of 'trustworthy' contractors to reduce incidents of distraction burglary and fraudulent transactions. By 2003, it had passed 3,800 referrals to contractors building now to more than 12,000 people across Leeds. The scheme was further funded by Leeds Safer Communities to ensure its continued success and it aims to be fully self-financing this year. It is now managed by local charitable body, Community Action Support Against Crime (CASAC). (
