Nationwide Home Improvements - 0871 5200090
May 15th, 2006 at 12:06pm

Just had a call from 0871 5200090 purporting to be from Nationwide Group. He confirmed my name then asked if my postcode which he ( correctly) gave me. I replied "Are you from the Nationwide Building Society?" He rang off.

Does anyone know of this 'Group' and what there're up to?

Be careful, this could be scamming.  Nationwide Building Society don't use 0871 that I've noticed.  They generally use 0845, 0800 or geographicals.  He could have got your name and address (or even part of your address) from old statements, letters, etc in your bin.  The fact that they hung up makes them look even more suspicious so beware.

I strongly suggest that you call Nationwide on one of their published numbers. Explain to them what happened and ask them whether they use the 0871 number you received a call from.

Before you do, I suggest that you write down what the caller said and what you told them.

I've just had a missed call from this number; when I tried 1471 I got a recorded message saying "Thank you for calling Nationwide Home Improvements Ltd", which appears to be this lot:

http://www.nationwideltd.co.uk/

Not impressed as I'm ex-directory  Angry

Edited:
Please Note
: Nationwide Ltd. on
0800 0197080
is NOT the same company that this thread relates to.
They
DO NOT
use 087* or 084* numbers.
Their products are Garage Doors, Security Blinds, Awnings, Canopies & Driveway turntables ! Roll Eyes

They have had numerous calls from people complaining about the activities of this other crowd of cowboys.

1471 only gives me a BT lady telling me the number that phoned.

Do you mean you actually called the number back?  If you did, I do hope you dialled the number yourself and didn't press 3 to return the call - that would have cost you an extra 7½p - on top of the 10p/minute the call actually cost.

If it's them (and I can't find any reference to that 0871 number on their web site), their geographical number is 01929 554901.

BTW, being ex-directory means you're not in the directory, not that anyone (or a computer) is prevented from dialling your number.  TPS should do that for UK-based companies.  http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/what/

Sorry, I wasn't clear there. Yes, I dialled the number myself (and preceded it with 141 to block my number)  Smiley

I am already registered with TPS. Hence I will now be complaining!

Adding their email address to various disreputable sites may derive an element of pleasure.
After all, a bunch of "self pleasure seekers" may well require the approach from cialis and viagra stockists, and of course a one to one email contact with Leather Linda!

If you're a member of Primus, or any other company with free evening calls, then I'm sure their mailbox can be filled quite quickly.

Edit Admin: E-mail address removed - Appears to be for a different company

Just had two calls from this bunch of scammers. They've called my house before.

They called on one line, and then about 30 seconds later on the other line which is 10 digits on from the first. So obviously they are harrassing people by dialling numbers sequentially.

Both lines are registered with the Telephone Preference Service.

And they have only recently aquired this number for the purpose of annoying people as it was cached by Google on 12 March 2007 on "Monkey Marketing" website as being for 'sale' here. I notice that they make 3p/min on an incoming call.

Are they really the same people at Nationwide Limited; www.nationwideltd.co.uk  Undecided

If the 0871 gives a message identifying themselves as "Nationwide Home Improvements Limited, then these results suggest that they are infact based at:

154 Richmond Row
Liverpool
L3 3BL

According to the links that Google finds, it was dissolved in 2004.

If the regulator had to publish a database of numbers and the contact details for the service provider, then it would be straightforward to find out exactly who is causing a nuisance. This is how internet domains work, so why can't we have this with telephone numbers?

I will put this in my response to ICSTIS' consultation on 0871 regulation. The best we have at the moment is the ICSTIS lookup that provides the name of the telco which the number is allocated to. This is not forced to be correct as the individual number may have been ported to another telco.

I had a call from these today.  "Hi, you've been awarded £1000 in home improvements vouchers".

..on a line that used to be used as a fax line on an 0870 redirect (sorry!), and so whose number has never been given out.

I asked for his company name, "nationwide home improvements" and phone number "0151 420 8732", and his name, where he gave me a first name, but refused point blank to give me his surname.  I asked then for his managers name, and he said he didn't know her surname!  Since I'd got as much as I was going to out of him, I advised him that the line was registered with the TPS and I'd be reporting the matter .. wherupon he hung up!

1471 gave the standard "we do not have the number to return the call" message.

I've filled in the TPSonline.org.uk complaints form, anyway.  I'm hoping that will have some effect.

PS:  Their address is:
Quote:
Nationwide Home Improvements
Croft St
Widnes
Cheshire
WA8 0NQ
Tel: 0151 420 8732

from:
http://www.localuk.com/results/home-improvement-centres/cheshire.htm?qualifier=(...)
via googling for their phone number!
