Greenwich Picturehouse Cinema - 0870 755 0065
May 26th, 2006 at 8:05pm

Hi folks

The horrid people at all the Picturehouse cinemas nationwide (about 20 of them in total) have all gone 0870.

Does anyone have any leads on the geographical number for Greenwich Picturehouse, 180 Greenwich High Road, SE10 8NN
Tel: 08707 550065?

I've tried and failed to find one.

Cheers folks

Firstly, the Picturehouse Cinema website is at www.picturehouses.co.uk

Address: 180 Greenwich High Road, SE10 8NN

A search of 192.com for businesses in SE10 8NN reveals The Greenwich Cinema at 180 Greenwich High Road, telephone: 020 8293 0101

A search of Internet Archive reveals that it opened in 2005. It also shows pictures of the development work. That would explain why nothing can be found with the 020 number. The above number rings and perhaps this was the number that the cinema used before it became a Picturehouse (I presume that it was a cinema previously).

Many thanks for this!

I'll try it during business hours and if it's OK I'll submit it to the main database.

Thanks again.  Smiley

A quick update:

I've tried ringing the number from 192.com today (Saturday daytime) but it rings unanswered and then finally goes to a standard BT 1571 Answering Service with no message to suggest that it's the number for the Greenwich Picturehouse Cinema.

I'm wondering if the number has been reallocated to a private person.

Are there any other avenues to explore...I'm new at all this.

Thanks for your help so far,

This page gives 020 8235 3005, but it is now not recognised. Lips Sealed

A Google reveals that 020 8293 0100 is Wavehill IT Solutions and 020 8293 0102 is not recognised.

Ringing the 0870 number you quote [yes, needs must I'm afraid; it's for research purposes!] it answers saying that all operators are busy and asks you to hold; no indication of the company. Perhaps it goes through to a central booking office for all Picturehouses rather than this cinema. If it does, the reason for the different 0870s going to the same place is that it allows the operator to know which cinema branch the caller is booking tickets for. Undecided

I've realised with horror that you are right, and it has also happened to the Cambridge Arts Picture House as well.   I am sending them an angry email as I am on their mailing list and am grateful, as I shall tell them, that a small cinema has just opened in my local school, which I shall use from now on rather than going to Cambridge!   I think it is worth everyone affected emailing and they might just realise they have annoyed a lot of customers, we have often used them rather than Vue or other cinemas BECAUSE they were then the only ones with a geog no.   If it helps, the email address for Cambridge is:
cambridge@picturehouses.co.uk so I suppose the others will follow similar format.

Further to yesterday's post, I did email Picturehouse cinemas and this morning received a totally unacceptable reply - the usual, to improve customer service, in response to customer demand etc etc etc so I have responded again, pointing out not national rate, bet they didn't ask customers if they wanted to pay a fortune for calls etc.

The person to contact (or who replied to me) is Alastair Oatey, his email address is alastair.o@pitcurehouses.co.uk - I would suggest contacting him.  Maybe if enough people complained they might just provide a geog alternative (I know its a very forlorn hope).   Perhaps also ask for a copy of the email he sent me as I am not sure how to copy it to this site without re-typing it in full and I don't really understand the instructions I was given for this previously - sorry.

I also suggested AGAIN that he might like to look at this site and perhaps check with OFCOM and the ASA about how he markets the 0870 numbers (I did have a fairly helpful reply from Clive Hillier the other day re another organisation but generally they do not like the national/local rate descriptions).

Sorry this doesn't really help with the number but at least now it is obvious there is no point in looking for it any further.
